## Content Sharing on Reddit
### Overview GMBinder is a great tool for creating content. Here are some tips for creating high visibility content that using GMB. These have been updated on Jan 2018. The 5 second takeaway from this document is: Post in several subs, 7am - 2pm PST (with the best time being monday morning), always post a direct link with an image metatag, and leave a comment with any textual background, design notes, etc. ### Know your Audience For DND homebrew, there are several places to post. You can post the same content in several, although be sure to check rules. - r/dnd - Largest subreddit, posting at a good time is the most essential. You can use [this tool](https://dashboard.laterforreddit.com/analysis/) to schedule a post if necessary. However, rarely do homebrew posts do well enough here to survive more than a day. - r/dndbehindthescreen - Good posts survive for much longer. Only text posts. Posts require a moderators approval before going live (you submit a post and it gets reviewed before being posted, so expect some delay). There are restrictions for what homebrew can be posted. Most notably character options are not allowed. Monsters / NPCs are generally not allowed without context (an adventure or module) - r/dndnext - Anything related to 5e is acceptable. I would save more polished content for here, and I wouldn't use the content drip technique (see below). Bigger than Unearthed Arcana community but not dedicated to homebrew. There are plenty of people who will give an honest critique. - r/unearthedarcana: Smallest community, just for dnd 5e homebrew. Posts genereally last 1-2 days on the front page. There is an informal maximum number of posts/day of 1/day although a mod may PM you if you actually post 1/day for an extended period of time. - Post in a community which is the inspiration for your homebrew. e.g. if you made a pokemon homebrew, you have the option of posting it there as well. You can post a crosspost (when you submit a link directly to a reddit thread). ### Titles In my experience, a descriptive title indicative of high quality content is preferred, although you should definitely attempt to cater to the community. Search the top posts that week to get an idea of what kind of content and titles is preferred. ### Metaimages GMB allows you to select an image for the thumbnail even if it isn't in the doc in the settings button. (if you cannot see a grey gear button at the top of your screen, lengthen the coding window and it should pop up. **Use this functionality** \columnbreak ### Branding If you plan on making a significant chunk of content, you can attempt to make people aware of who you are and what you do. At the end of your homebrew in GMB, or in a comment thread introducing your material, you can mention yourself by name (hey guys, its [name]) and include a link to all the material you've made. You can either link to your reddit profile if thats the main thing you do with it, or to a GMB search [like this](https://www.gmbinder.com/search?q=metabot). ### Search Optimization GMB only searches the first 10K characters (and the headers). You might want include a list of relevant keywords commented out at the top of your doc. ### Compendiums Compendiums are just collections of homebrew that have something in common, whether it be the type, the subjector theme. They are a good way to produce popular content, but require a lot of work, and only get fairly popular if they are done very well. If you plan on making a compendium anyway, I suggest posting a thread every couple of days in UA subreddit. Finish around half of it before you start posting it, and post it in chunks, with a new thread each time your old ones falls off the front page. While you are posting new content, work on integrating feedback from previous posts and slowly build up your compendium. Starting working on annoying stuff like art/formatting while posting as then you're getting a mixture of tasks and won't burn yourself out. Each post should backlink to old posts, either in the form of a landing page as the first page of your new content that has links to the stuff you've already released and explaining what you plan to release -- or as links in the top-level comment. ### Vote manipulation There is a huge correlation with early upvotes and how your post does. However, I don't recommend it, in terms of using alts to vote your content for you. Here are some more acceptable tips: - Post your link in a smaller supportive community (such as the Discord of Many things), and ask them to give you feedback on the - Coauthor content! ### Watercoloring Refers to blending an image into the background, like in official material. There are two resources I like to use: - Quick and dirty, images that take up the top bit or bottom bit of the screen: [Use this guide](http://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/B1Hju_QaTx#p4) with [this album](https://imgur.com/a/SKmRN) - More advanced blending [Use this guide](http://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/HyWImuH06x#p7) with [this album](http://imgur.com/a/TW79K). I recommend first going through examples and just copying it, changing the actual image in question, and making your doc around that.
