Pixie Attributes

Tiny Trickster

Most pixies study the visitors from afar to assess their temperament or play tricks on them to measure their reactions. For example, pixies might tie a dwarf's boot together, create illusions of strange creatures or treasures, or use dancing lights to lead interlopers astray. If the visitors respond with hostility, the pixies give them a wide berth. If the visitors are good natured, the pixies are likely to be emboldened and more friendly. The fey might even emerge and offer to guide their "guests" along a safe route or invite them to a tiny yet satisfying feast prepared in their honor. The same is true for an adventuring Pixie though they might be more bold than one who has not chosen that path.

Winter cousins

Some pixies lean towards a crueler and more sadistic bent. These malevolent creatures still seek entertainment and companionship with creatures they find entertaining, but where a normal pixie is empathetic and abhores violence, their darker cousins have no qualms about it. A summer pixie will ignore rude or threatening humans, where as a winter pixie will invoke curses, madness, or even inflict torment on the loved ones of the source of their ire. A winter pixie still loves pranks, but legitimately doesn't see the difference between tripping a tavernkeeper so they get a bowl of soup on their face and pushing that same tavernkeeper's young child into a well. Both are bound to entertain. Winter pixies are notorious kleptomaniacs as well, and very greedy about items that interest them.

Pixie Dust

When visible, a shower of sparkling dust follows in their wake like the glittering tail of a shooting star. A handful of pixie dust is said to be able to grant the power of flight, confuse a creature hopelessly, or send foes into a magical slumber. This actually requires the dust to be collected immediately and the hand of a skilled alchemist, along with other ingredients, but these fey are constantly sought out by mages and monsters seeking to study or master their power.

Traits (Cont)

  • Speed. Your base walking speed is 15 feet. Your fly speed is 30 feet. You have the Hover property but will fall if Incapacitated or Restrained.
  • Darkvision. You have superior vision in dark or dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if you were in bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
  • Feywild Born. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep. While in the feywild you do not need to sleep, 4 or more hours of light activity grants the benefit of a long rest.
  • Invisibility. Starting at 5th level, you can cast the Invisibility spell with yourself as the target as a bonus action. After you cast invisibility in this way, you cannot do so again until you complete a long rest. If you are a third or higher level spellcaster, add the Invisibility spell to your class' spell list without counting against your known spells.
  • Wing Regrowth. If your wings are cut or injured, your magic causes them to regrow by the end of a long rest. Area of effect spells that do more than 50% of your maximum hitpoints in damage will damage or destroy your wings. Cutting off a pixie's wings deals 10% of its total hitpoints in damage.
  • Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Sylvan.
  • Whimsy. Pixies normally glow in the same color as their skin, shedding dim light out to 5 feet, and they leave a trail of rapidly fading pixie dust wherever they go. One or both of these effects can be suppressed at will.
