Truestrike Bow
Legendary Item (Legacy), requires attunement
An angular recurve bow comprised of a single willow branch. The bow appears well used, but is still in excellent condition. Archaic Elven characters are inscribed on the inner side of the grip, characters which are so distantly related to modern Elven that an average speaker can only tell that they are related, not what they mean. The string of the bow is as fine as spider silk, but incredibly strong; it seems to be unbreakable while attached to the bow, and removing it causes a new string to magically reform over the course of a minute in place on the bow.
Basic Enchantments
For a character 4th level or lower, the bow is the wielder's choice of a +1 shortbow or a +1 longbow. For a character above 4th level, it also deals an additional 1d4 force damage.
Legacy Properties
When wielded by a character of 6th level or higher, the bow gains additional properties. You must be attuned to the weapon to utilise these features.
Sixth Level - The Willow Quiver
At sixth level, the wielder may commune with the bow to discover the location of the quiver that was made alongside it. This communion takes the form of a ritual with a duration of 24 hours, during which the wielder sits in silent meditation and cannot eat, drink, or communicate in any way. At the end of the ritual, the wielder gains three levels of exhaustion, and knows the location of the quiver.
The bow and quiver together only count as one magical item for the purposes of attunement. The quiver provides an endless supply of arrows, though if they are used with a weapon other than its bonded bow, the arrows dissipate upon leaving that weapon.
The quiver also allows its bearer to spend a bonus action to transform one of its arrows into a magical lance. If the quiver and the bow are worn together, the lance has a bonus to its attack and damage rolls equal to those of the bow (for example, if it has been upgraded to a +2 bow, then the arrow will become a +2 lance), and it benefits from the bow's additional force damage.
Finally, if the bow and quiver are worn together, the force damage increases from 1d4 to 1d6.
Eighth Level - Hunter's Guard
At eighth level, the power of the quiver is further unlocked, allowing its bearer to protect themselves. The quiver gains six charges. While you are attuned to the bow and quiver, you may expend two charges to cast Cordon of Arrows as a bonus action. When casting the spell in this way, it is centred on the quiver and moves with it rather than being placed on the ground, its duration is reduced to 1 minute, and there is no limit to the number of times that it can trigger due to the endless nature of the quiver's supply. Any expended charges are regained when the bearer finishes a long rest.
Tenth Level - Elemental Strike
At tenth level, you may spend three of the quiver's charges to cast Lightning Arrow; if you do so, the bow does it's force damage in addition to the normal damage dealt by the spell. In addition, you may spend three of the quiver's charges to cast Flame Arrows.
Twelfth Level - Stalker's Twinstrike
At twelfth level, the bow gains the ability to cleave arrows as they are shot with it. When the wielder makes an attack with it, they may make another attack with the bow against a different creature that is within 5 feet of the original target and within range of the bow. This ability can be used a number of times equal to the wielder's proficiency bonus; they regain any expended uses upon finishing a long rest.
Twentieth Level - Harbinger of the Hunt
At twentieth level, the number of charges held by the quiver increases to 12. In addition, the wielder may spend four charges to cast Blink as an action. If cast in this way, Blink will also extend to a mount, if the wielder is riding one when the spell is cast.
Bond Upgrades
Path of Rebirth
Weapon Attunement
There are two key locations to visit to unlock the power of the bow and quiver, and to discover more about its creator.
Visiting either one at 12th level or higher causes the bow to transform from a +1 shortbow or longbow to a +2 shortbow or longbow.
Visiting the other location at 16th level or higher causes the bow to transform from a +2 shortbow or longbow to a +3 shortbow or longbow.
Path of the Spirit
Force Attunement
The force damage done by the bow is representative of the pure energy of Arvandor being drawn into the prime material plane; this purity can be exemplified by hunting the impure.
A character of 13th level or higher can partially unlock this attunement by hunting and killing an abberation of challenge rating 7 or higher on their own (though they may have the help of any beast companions). The force damage dice used by the bow and quiver increase from 1d6 to 1d8.
A character of 17th level or higher can fully unlock this attunement by hunting and killing an abberation of challenge rating 10 or higher on their own (though they may have the help of any beast companions). The force damage dice used by the bow and quiver increase from 1d8 to 2d8.
Bonded Path
Upon unlocking all bond upgrades for the weapon, the quiver's charges now regenerate on a short rest rather than a long rest.
DM Information
Locations for Attunement
The first location that the bearer needs to visit is in The High Forest, in the foothills of the Star Mounts. Deep in this ancient forest the bearer must find a towering redwood bearing the mark of Solonor, an arrow of silver with green fletching. In the base of this tree is a crack, a gap large enough to enter. Inside can be found an abandoned temple to Solonor, though it served as more of a halfway house for his worshippers. The bearer of the bow and quiver must spend 24 hours guarding the tree, patrolling the borders of its grove nonstop. Doing so will consecrate the temple.
The second location that the bearer needs to visit is the Pale Tree, a huge tree with white bark and silver leaves on the plane of Arvandor, deep within the most dense part of its woodlands. This was Solonor's divine realm, though he spent little time there. It now lies abandoned; worship of Solonor faded, and he with it. The bearer of the bow and quiver most find the Pale Tree and explore it, purging anything unnatural. Once this is done, the bearer must patrol its borders nonstop for a week, walking a clockwise path around the grove that contains the tree. Doing so will consecrate it once again, and begin the process of bringing Solonor back into existence.
General Lore
Magically created by being pulled as a whole piece from the trunk of a willow tree by Solonor Thelandira himself, alongside its matched quiver. The Elven characters on the bow spell the name of Solonor Thelandira, and a glyph representing the Pale Tree, his domain on Arvandor.
Evolving Names of the Bow and Quiver
The name of the bow and the quiver each change over time, and as the bearer unlocks their power. Following is a list of names and level brackets:
Truestrike Bow & Willow Quiver (Level 1 to 7)
Thelandira's Vanguard & Everflowing Quiver (8 to 15)
Harbinger of the Silent Hunter (Level 16+, and only once it's been upgraded to +3 by completing the Path of Rebirth).
