Aurora Prodigy

Aurora Prodigies receive their innate magic from the mighty Aurora Borealis. Brimming with radiance, the Aurora Borealis paints the sky in vivid colors, breathing life into the freezing air. Just like the northern lights mirror the cold landscape below, children born with the spark of the Aurora often become beacons of brilliance in their own right. Aurora Prodigies excel at traversing the harsh climates of the North, often acting as guides and sages of the barren lands. Some Aurora Prodigies travel alone to expand their understanding of the gift, while others band together to work towards a shared goal, such as protecting the northern settlements. Although Aurora Prodigies are often mysterious and introspective, they are capable of unleashing cascades of radiant light, turning the tides of battle.

Aurora prodigy Features

Sorcerer Level Feature
1st Touched by the Northern Lights
6th Otherworldly Voyage
6th Sheltering Presence
14th Chromatic Surge
17th Soul of the Arctic Prism

Touched by the Northern Lights

Your affinity for the northern lights manifests itself in a series of small, visual phenomena. At 1st level, you gain the Dancing Lights cantrip if you do not already know it. You also learn the 1st level spell Faerie Fire, which does not count against your number of spells known.

In addition, you gain the ability to act as a compass by tuning in to the area in which your source of power resides. You may spend one minute in quiet reflection to immediately learn which direction is North.

Otherworldly Voyage

The Aurora Borealis guides and shapes your path, letting you traverse through the battlefield unhindered. At 6th level, you may use a bonus action to teleport to an unoccupied space within 30 feet that you can see. Until the beginning of your next turn, you may use your reaction to reappear in the space that you occupied right before using this ability. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier. You regain any expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Sheltering Presence

At 6th level, you also gain the ability to guard your allies from the perilous climate of the north. Creatures of your choice within 30 feet of you ignore difficult terrain created by ice and snow, and they cannot be moved against their will.

In addition, you may use your reaction and a Sorcery Point to grant resistance to cold damage to any number of creatures within 30 feet, coating the affected creatures in a mantle of light.

Chromatic Surge

Starting at 14th level, you may draw upon your connection to the Aurora Borealis to amplify your magic with devastating waves of light. Whenever you cast a spell that damages more than one creature, you may choose to have that spell deal an additional amount of radiant damage equal to your Charisma modifier. Whenever you deal radiant damage to a creature using this feature, you may spend a Sorcery Point to make that creature roll a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC or become vulnerable to radiant damage until the end of your next turn.

Soul of the Arctic Prism

At 17th level, you adopt the elemental properties of the Aurora Borealis, becoming an arcane prism capable of turning harmful elemental energies into potent rays of light. You gain the following benefits:

  • You have resistance to acid, cold, fire, lightning and thunder damage.
  • If a creature hits you with a spell that deals any of the aforementioned damage types, you may have that creature take radiant damage equal to your level.

Variant: Origin Spells

If you use u/SwordMeow's Tweaked Sorcerer or another Sorcerer modification that adds Origin Spells, Aurora Prodigy grants the following spells:

Sorcerer level Spell
1st Chromatic Orb
3rd Moonbeam
5th Daylight
7th Freedom of Movement
9th Wall of Light
11th Sunbeam
