## Kurnik A kurnik is a peculiar creature that thrives within the Feywild. On the outside, they appear as normal huts and homes made of straw and wood, but when they rise from the soft earth they roost in, they expose large chicken legs that sprout from the foundation and even a few tail feathers just dangling from the back of the homestead. **No Place Like Home.** Kurnik's probably appear more like constructs to most creatures and they wouldn't be completely wrong; however, in actuality, they are living creatures created out of necessity and by accident by the witches and hags of the Feywild. Always on the move, these arcane users wanted to create a new spell to allow their homes to teleport great distances, but with a few misspoken words instead gave life, feathers, and legs to their not-so-humble abodes. **What came first...?** A strange phenomenon happens once every 20 years of a Kurnik's life. They lay a clutch of eggs. The clutch ranges from 2-8 eggs and once laid the Kurnik will not move from their roost for a year until the eggs hatch. The newborn's are quite big when they hatch, as they appear as small huts. Once able to move a few days after being hatched, the Kurnik Chick will follow the mother and roost around her in a circle. Many people have stumbled into a heard of roosting Kurnik's thinking it was an abandoned hamlet or throp. Once the chicks fully matures at the age of 5, they leave the mother's side and go wandering off into the wilds. **Tamable Creatures.** Kurnik's are a very docile race, especially considering they don't require food, water, or even air to survive. They do however enjoy company and have been known to become quite loyal and emotionally attached to those who spend long periods of time with it. Many witches, hags, and other fey have been known to take residence in these creatures bodies and use them as a source of free, mobile shelters. **Rundown and Abandoned.** After long periods of isolation from living creatures, some Kurnik's start to go into disrepair and enter a state of hibernation. During this time the Kurnik becomes an ordinary home for all intents and purposes. Only once another living creature has lived in and repaired the Kurnik's hearth will the Kurnik finally awaken from their hibernation and regain all their abilities. > ##### The Hearth > The hearth of a Kurnik tends to be a fireplace located in the heart of it's body; however this isn't a mandatory choice. A hearth can be anything used as a symbol of life in the home such as a piece of furnisher or a decoration such as a wreath or a painting. Destroying or removing this object will cause the Kurnik to enter a state of hibernation until it is restored or returned.

As such, these creature's insides should feel like their own mini dungeon. Add some monsters like animated armor and smothering rugs inside to preoccupy the party trapped within the beast belly, have treasure waiting inside the witches room, and possibly even add a few mundane or magical traps to spice things up. \pagebreak ___ > ## Kurnik Chick >*Large fey, unaligned* > ___ > - **Armor Class** 14 > - **Hit Points** 13 (2d10 + 2) > - **Speed** 40 ft. >___ >|STR|DEX|CON|INT|WIS|CHA| >|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:| >|15 (+2)|12 (+1)|14 (+2)|1 (-5)|5 (-3)|2 (-5)| >___ > - **Condition Immunities** Blinded > - **Senses** blindsight 10ft., passive perception 7 > - **Languages** understands sylvan, but can't speak > - **Challenge** 1/4 (50 XP) > ___ > ***Roost.*** The Kurnik burrows up to 10 ft. into dirt or sand to hide and rest.
