## Wizard Arcane Traditions ___ ### Demonologist ___ A demonologist is an expert of conjuration, a loremaster of demons; creatures of destruction and chaos who dwell in the realm of Abyss. Using their mystical talents and dark rituals, they often succeed where other wizards would fatally fail, striking bargains with those vicious creatures to achieve their grim goals. Demonologists use their magic to summon and to bind demons as their servants. They have learned ways to communicate with them using their harsh language, mastered techniques to influence them to do their bidding. The most experienced, or at least the maddest, demonologists establish a permanent link with a powerful demon, granting them special powers of their host. Meddling with demons often leaves corruptive signs on demonologist, as the chaotic nature of Abyss corrupts their mind and body. At your option, you can pick from or roll on the Signs of Corruption table to define an unique sign for your character. | d8 | Sign of Corruption | |:---:|:------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 1 | You emit a faint scent of sulfur noticeable from up to 5 feet away. | | 2 | Features, such as shape and color, on your face, resembles some demon. | | 3 | You are often surrounded by buzzing flies. | | 4 | You enjoy watching other creatures suffering. | | 5 | It can be very uncomfortable for you to stand in direct sunlight. | | 6 | Sometimes you hurt people by accident, sometimes not. | | 7 | Your shadow appears to look like a demon. | | 8 | You cause distress to animals within 30 feet of you. | > #### Emphasis: Red Wizards of Thay > > Infamous Red Wizards are sole experts in demonology as through out their history they have formed alliances with > demons. Red Wizards closely guard their secret knowledge of demon summoning. > > While this arcane tradition is not strictly limited to Thayan, nor Red Wizards, your DM can steer your character background to have such of connection. \columnbreak #### Demonic Cultist ___ Beginning at 2nd level when you choose this tradition, you become a prophet of chaos and doom. You gain proficiency in religion skill and you learn to speak, read and write Abyssal language. #### Dark Rituals ___ Beginning at 2nd level when you choose this tradition, you have learned to summon small demons from the chaos of the Abyss. You can summon yourself a demon familiar during a one-hour ritual, which you can also perform during a short rest. As part of the ritual, you need to form a circle on the ground with the blood used as a material component. The circle must be large enough to encompass demon's space. Choose a demon of CR 1 or lower and an appropriate offering for it, which you must place inside the circle. For example, a fresh corpse for Maw Demon, or a gem for Quasit. Once the ritual completes, one demon appears inside the ring. The demon acts independently, it has its own turns, and it is hostile to all creatures. It attacks you if it thinks it can prevail. If you, or any creature, harms or intimidates the demon in any way, it will attack the violator to the best of its ability. Like any creature, the demon can spend Hit Dice during a short rest to regain hit points, and it restores its hit points and abilities after completing a long rest. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest. #### Telepathic Link ___ At 2nd level, you learn how to form a telepathic link to control one demon. As a bonus action on your turn, you can magically create a link with the demon you can see within 30 feet from you. The demon must succeed on a Charisma saving throw or you create a telepathic link with it. If you speak demon's true name, it has disadvantage on the saving throw. When you have a telepathic link with the demon, as an action, you can use it to issue commands to the demon while you are conscious, which it does its best to obey. You can specify a simple and general course of action, such as "Attack that creature," "Run over there," or "Fetch that object." If the demon completes the order and doesn't receive further direction from you, it acts according to its whims. If you issue command that is directly harmful to the demon, the telepathic link fails and the demon attacks you to best of its ability. You must concentrate (as if concentrating to a spell) to maintain this telepathic link. As a bonus action, you can break this telepathic link. \pagebreak #### Magic Circle ___ At 6th level, you add the magic circle spell to your spellbook if it is not there already. You can cast magic circle without expending a spell slot as an action. When you do so, the magic circle works only against fiends. At the time of casting, each fiend in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw against your wizard DC to avoid being trapped by the circle. Once you cast magic circle in this way, you can’t do so again until you finish a short or long rest, though you can still cast it normally using an available spell slot. #### Bound Demon ___ Starting at 10th level, you can spend 8 hours creating a magical weapon, idol, or piece of jewelry that can store an essence of a demon. You can benefit from the item yourself or give it to another creature. A creature gains a benefit of the item as long as the creature is attuned to the item. Once you have stone ready, you can complete a 1 minute ritual to capture demon's essence into the item. The demon must be within 30 feet from you for the entire process. (Typically, the demon is in the center of an inverted magic circle in order to keep it still during the ritual.) At the completion of the process, the demon must make a Charisma Saving throw. A demon of CR 10 or higher has an advantage to it. On failure, you trap the demons essence into the magic item and you are able to control the demon. If the demon was summoned or created by another spell that required concentration, you don't need to maintain the concentration any more and duration becomes instantaneous. While attuned to the item, the demon can communicate with the attuned creature telepathically, constantly disrupting its dreams and attempting to influence its actions. When the demon is contained within the magic item, the magic item radiates a palpable evil, chilling and fouling the air around it. Your DM can choose up to two minor detrimental properties from Artifact Properties chapter in DM book. If you create a new magic item to store a demon's essence, the previous one fails and the demon is freed, which immediately seeks revenge against you. #### Abyssal Master ___ At 14th level, you have mastered the ability to control demons. When you use your Telepathic Link ability, you don't need to maintain concentration on it anymore. Additionally, you share demon's magic resistance trait when the demon you have telepathic link with is within 30 feet of you.
