Gnoll

Hyena people, scavengers, hellish influence on animals. Culturally evil but not irredeemable.

Gnoll Traits

Your gnoll character has the following traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2.

Age. Gnolls physically mature by about 12 years, living until they are about 60.

Size. Gnolls hunch at about five feet, but standing straight can reach nearly seven. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet. Your speed is not reduced by nonmagical difficult terrain.

Darkvision. Accustomed to the night, you can see well in darker areas. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of grey.

Gnoll Battle Training. You have proficiency with the spear, handaxe, battleaxe, and longbow.

Bite. Your teeth are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Rampage. When you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with a melee attack on its turn, you can take a bonus action to move up to half your speed and make a bite attack.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Gnoll. Gnoll is a higher pitched squealing and barking language, with meaning derived tonally.

Subrace. Two main subraces of Gnolls populate the worlds of D&D: fiendish gnolls and feral gnolls. Choose one of these subraces.

Fiendish Gnolls

As a fiendish gnoll, you are more connected to your hellish ancestry than other gnolls, either through your bloodline or from worship and effort on your part.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 1.

Fiendish Magic. You know the create bonfire cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the heroism spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Once you reach 5th level, you can also cast the branding smite spell and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Feral Gnolls

As a feral gnoll, you have connection to the gnolls you are with and your wild, primal, and nomadic instincts, along with much of your time involved in training or combat.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.

Incite Rampage. As an action, you can choose one creature within 30 feet of you. That creature can use its reaction to make a melee attack if it can see or hear you. You can't use this feature again until you finish a short or long rest.

Unshakeable Blows. Whenever you roll damage for a melee attack you land, you can treat any 1 on a damage die as a 2.
