Top 5 Report Week 10
Every week we scour various data sources to bring to you some notable players and teams from REL that are leading the pack in glamorous (sometimes unglamorous) fashion. This week, AndrewS is unavailable, so I’ll be filling in! Without further ado, let's look at who’s letting the crowd in on the most action!
Top 5 Surfers
- The Punanimals - Dark Elf - 17 Surfs
Topping the list isn’t some crazy mass frenzy team (who would spam frenzy so much?), or an experienced team with a well built surfer. Instead, we have The Punanimals, a one season Dark Elf team with a couple witch elves. But the witches aren’t the only ones surfing. Each positional has inflicted two surfs! And even a lineman, Seally Goose, has joined in on the fun with two surfs of his own. The Punanimals are comfortably sitting at the top, with almost twice as many surfs as their other competitors, and are likely to stay that way until the end of the season.
- Cold Blooded Exes - Lizardmen - 10 Surfs
The Cold Blooded Exes sit in a much less comfortable second place on 10 surfs, but continue to represent the fresh divisions, hailing from 9A! Here sits one of five players in REL to hold three surfs in one game, and former top surfer in REL, Laurel. Or at least, Laurel did hold that honor, until being killed about half way through the season. For a team completely lacking frenzy to sit in second place, and having taken the Sauri casualties they have taken, is quite impressive.
- New Year Norse - Norse - 10 Surfs
Our reigning, defending Superb Owl champions, the New Year Norse, sit tied at second with 10 surfs. Unlike many other teams whose surfing duties are nicely spread out, there is one clear king of surfing on these Norsemen, and that’s the infamous 300, with Tackle, Shadowing, Frenzy and Pro. Oh, and of course a +ST! Did I mention he’s a lineman? 300 has inflicted five surfs in this season, putting him in a three way tie for most surfs in REL. With such dangerous players and unsafe sidelines, don’t count out these Norsemen in their quest to give the fans a good time!
- Foul Targets - Wood Elf - 9 Surfs
Maybe a bit unexpectedly, we have some Wood Elves sitting in third place with 9 surfs. What’s more, this is another fresh team, hailing from 9D. Some very nicely developed Wardancers have certainly helped bring them this far, with Target #1 having two surfs, and Target #2 having 3. But expect that number to go up, as this team is home to an AG5, Side Step, Frenzy Wardancer! Such a dangerous piece on a wood elf team may not have the longest life, but he is certain to be an impact player!
- Economy of Scale - Lizardmen - 8 Surfs
In a tie for fourth, we have Economy of Scale, another Lizardmen team and another fresh division team, hailing from 9C. While this Lizardmen team does have a Frenzy player, he’s not been the big surfer of the team, the duties have been spread out nicely among the sauri, and even the Kroxigor has contributed with a surf and a rookie Skink with two! But with some very developed teams threatening the top 5, these Lizards are going to need to step up their game to keep their position.

WANTED
DEAD ONLY
Clan League and You!
Greetings everyone and welcome to a short review of Clan League; A fun new way to play Blood Bowl which may or may not have been around for couple of seasons.
"What is a Clan?"
That is the easy one. A Clan is a team of 5 coaches that have agreed to a theme and one of the coaches is the Captain.
Themes are rather subjective and can range from 'We all live on the same continent' to 'We play D&D together' and even 'I too love cheeseburgers'.
Really the only rule to the theme is that there can only be one instance of any team. Bill wants to play Dwarves and Frank wants to play dwarves... Somone is going to have to give up the Sons of Durin and roll a new team.
What do Captains do?
The Captain has two jobs; drafting and using clan powers. Clan powers effect the game either before or after and are one time per season, unless new rules come out and allow for other hijinxs.
Drafting is where the meat and potatoes of Clan League starts to shine. See, your clan is facing off against another equally handsome and intelligent group of coaches with their own dreams of stardom and victory.
It is the Captains of each Clan that face off during the Draft. An event where one coach offers a team from his stable and the 2nd coach answers that challenge with a team from their stable. Then 2nd coach goes for 1st coach to reply and so forth.
Get it? Good?!
Team strategy
This is where the stratagey of teams, coaches skills, and use of powers can effect a lot of things; but in the end a game of Blood Bowl must be played.
And in Clan League there are no ties. There is Victory or Penalty Kicks. At the end of the round, your clan has either won or lost.
And then next round you face off against a new clan.
Simple right?!
Now you may think to yourself, "Ledeas, I want to be in a clan of Try Hards and Win Every Game!" and to that I say "Kudos to you and good luck." becuase you migth win every game and still lose every round.
I participated in Season 2 of the Clan League within a stable of Reporters and Video Makers under the watchful eye of Rodder and won only 1 game out of that season; and yet we placed very well due to the strength of our clan.
Now before you start throwing rocks, I too was often the Fodder for my clan, thus going out to face the team the opponent's clan wanted me to face, and I had several close games. I hope that it was my sacrifice that allowed my clan to create better match ups later with the stronger coaches in my clan.
So whether you are wanting to play for fun, for laughs, or for the sweet, sweet, joy of stomping other teams in the teeth... Clans League has something for everyone.
The last two factors to remember are:
- This is a multi time zone division that plays by a 2 week schedule.
- This is an official Rebbl Sactioned Division and all rules apply to this division as it does in the normal seasons.

The Coach and the Throat Tourniquet: an ode to Helmut Wulf
He can make short work of big ol trees
He can bring the biggest stars to their knees
But when you want to count on him
Nuffle will mess with you on a whim
And when his chainsaw kicks back
You realize he didn’t do jack
The game cannot be won
On a star player you thought would be fun
But that won't stop you next time
Because all you want to do is commit a hate crime
