## Roguish Archetype At 3rd level, a rogue gains the Roguish Archetype feature. Here is new option for that feature: the Arcane Locksmith.
### Arcane Locksmith
Archwizard Viran's claim spells shared characteristics
*with mechanical objects, such as mundane locks, is irrelevant at best, and nonsensical at worst. No wizard worth the ink they scribe their spells with should pay heed to such preposterous pretensions. What would you even do with such information, put down your wand and start using a pair of lock picks?*
—Court wizard Astur’s letter to an unknown correspondent
The art of arcane locksmithing is a rarely practiced craft, and one that is met with little more than ridicule in academic circles. Some rogues however have made this craft their own, leading them to excel in the disarming of spells, traps, and locks alike.
##### Arcane Locksmith Features | Rogue Level | Feature | |:--:|:--| | 3rd | Arcane Craftsman, Arcane Tools,
Defuse Magic | | 9th | Arcane Security | | 13th | Spell Savant | | 17th | Spell Conservation |
#### Arcane Craftsman At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with smith's tools, and in the Arcana skill if you don't already have it. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses this skill.
#### Arcane Tools When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain a set of magical thieves' tools—a magic item that only you can attune to. While you are attuned to it, your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make using thieves' tools, and you can cast the *detect magic* spell as a ritual. You can dismiss these thieves' tools, shunting them into an extradimensional space (no action required). You can then use a bonus action on your turn to cause them to reappear in your empty hand. You can create a new set of magical thieves' tools at the end of a long rest by touching nonmagical thieves' tools, which magically transforms them. Doing so removes the magic from your previous set of magical thieves' tools, turning them into nonmagical thieves' tools.
#### Defuse Magic Also at 3rd level, you have learned to treat magic like an intricate lock, one that is meant to be picked. While you are holding your magical set of thieves' tools and attuned to it, you can use your action to attempt to end spells on a creature, object, or magical effect within 5 feet of you. For each spell on the target, make an Intelligence (Thieves' Tools) check. The DC equals 15 + double the spell's level. On a successful check, the spell ends.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to 1 + your Intelligence modifier. When you finish a long rest, you regain all expended uses. #### Arcane Security By 9th level, treating magic like locks has reversely taught you to apply magic to locks. While attuned to your magical set of thieves' tools, you can cast *arcane lock* without expending a spell slot or material components. If you do so while you have a number of objects equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of one) affected by this spell already, the spell immediately ends on one object of your choice. #### Spell Savant By 13th level, your experience dealing with spells allows you to identify them effortlessly. You can identify a spell (see Chapter 2 in *Xanathar's Guide to Everything*) without using your reaction if you perceive the spell being cast, and you can use a bonus action on your turn to identify a spell by its effect after it is cast. #### Spell Conservation At 17th level, you gain the ability to conserve a spell's essence using your set of magical thieves' tools. When you end a spell using your Defuse Magic feature, you can use your reaction to store the spell in your magical thieves' tools. The thieves' tools can store no more than one spell at a time. While you are holding your magical set of thieves' tools and attuned to it, you can the cast the spell stored in them. The spell uses the slot level, spell save DC, spell attack bonus, and spellcasting ability of the original caster, but is otherwise treated as if you cast the spell. The spell cast from the thieves' tools is no longer stored in it, freeing up its space.
