World Information
The Corruption
The continent is dying. Many governments have started falling. The corruption started about 5 years ago and is spreading outward, destroying the soil that it engulfs. It appeared to have originate in the heart of the content and is moving slowly outward. Many civilizations have sent sailors to explore the unknown seas in hopes of finding new land to escape the corruption.
Governments
The corruption has caused fear in all governments, some of which have crumbled. The stronger governments have sent sailors out to search for new lands to settle on in hopes of escaping the corruption. Some have even taken steps to research and attack the corruption but everyone that was sent to fight has either fallen or returned empty handed.
Wildlife
The corruption has caused the wildlife to flee away from the center of the continent. Birds are migrating in large numbers and beasts can be seen in the middle of cities, searching for a new home.
The Uncivilized
Groups such as orcs, goblins, and trolls have taken this as an opportunity to loot, pillage, and profit. They've ambushed fleeing caravans and loot raided cities. They've become unruly and extremely aggressive. The governments in the area have not had the time or resources needed to keep them in check.
Countries
There are 4 nations that occupy the main land and 6 nations that live on the their own islands. and not many people have traveled to them all. The culture of each nation is different but when the corruption started spreading they each put aside their differences in order to survive.

Additional Background
Refugee
Perhaps you turned to a life of adventuring because it seemed a better alternative than being herded into the High Walls refugee districts of Marl or taking up residence in a shanty town. Maybe you went joined a shanty town and found yourself thrust into a life of urban adventure. Or you might have been an adventurer before the destruction of your homeland and your wandering was the only thing that saved you from suffering the fate of your home. In any case, you have no roots, nothing to keep you from roaming the world in search of adventure, fortune, or a new place to call home.

Feature: Refugee Survival
You have spent a lifetime wandering and meeting those who would be sympathetic to your plight. While in a city you can find those who will support you at a poor lifestyle. In addition, in the wilderness you can always find places to shelter yourself from the elements.
