Way of the Dragon

Monks of the Way of the Dragon have learned to tap into their ki to produce amazing effects. By mastering the ki of dragons, dragonfire ki, one can gain the speed, strength, flight, and even mimic the powerful exhalations of a dragon.

Dragonfire Ki Adept

Having chosen this tradition, you may focus your energy in order to boost your abilities at 3rd level. At the start of your turn you may grant yourself the Incapacitated condition and reduce your speed to 0 until the start of your next turn while creating an extremely loud, visible display within 20 feet of you as matter and energy swirl around you. If you do so, on your next turn you may reduce the ki expenditure of any ability except those gained by Empty Body or Dragon's Fury by one ki point.

You may use this ability on consecutive turns to cumulatively reduce the cost of any ability requiring ki, though if there is a maximum limit on the amount of ki points you can spend on an ability, that maximum remains in place.

Dragon Ki Blast

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can focus your ki into the facsimile of a dragon's breath weapon. As an action, you may spend at least 2 ki points to unleash a blast of force in a line 100 feet long and 5 feet wide in a direction you choose. Each creature in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes half of your Martial Arts dice in force damage with each die equal to your Martial Arts die, or half as much damage on a successful save. You may spend additional ki points on this ability up to one-half your die in Martial Arts damage, and for each ki point add an additional die of the same type to the damage dealt.

For example, at level 5 your Martial Arts damage die is a d6. This means by spending 2 ki points you deal a base of 3d6. For every additional ki point spend, add an additional 1d6 damage dealt, up to a maximum of 6d6.

At the start of your turn, you may grant yourself the Restrained condition until the end of your turn as a bonus action to focus your mind. Doing so increases the damage of the Dragon Ki Blast fired on the same turn by one die.

Rapid Movement

At 6th level, you gain the ability to virtually teleport due to how fast you move by channeling your ki into your feet. This gives you the following options:

  • As an action, you may spend 2 ki points to make up to four melee attacks, each targeting a creature you can see within 30 feet. Deal damage as normal on successful hits, and then teleport to an unoccupied space you can see within 5 feet of one of the targets that you attacked.
  • When you have successfully attacked a creature, you may spend 1 ki points as a bonus action to force the target to make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is moved in a direction of your choosing into an unoccupied square and you may immediately move adjacent to them with neither movement provoking an Opportunity Attack. You may continue moving the target with attacks until the end of your turn, though their total movement may not be more than your Unarmored Movement bonus.

Dragon Aspect

When you reach 11th level, you become even more attuned to the dragonfire ki boiling within you, gaining more of their abilities. You gain the following abilities:

  • You may spend 2 ki points as a bonus action to gain a Fly speed equal to twice your walking speed for one round, and must spend 1 ki point each round thereafter to maintain the flight.
  • You may spend a ki point as an action to cause multiple ki blasts to fly from you. You may make four ranged Wisdom-based spell attacks with a range of 100 feet. On a successful hit, the target of each takes a die of force damage equal to Martial Arts die.

Dragon's Fury

At 17th level, you have unlocked the final secrets of a dragon's ki, allowing you to temporarily super-charge your body, though at great cost to yourself. As a bonus action you may spend 4 ki points to cast Haste on yourself.
