Flora Colossus
I was bored and decided it would be fun to make the Flora Colossus race from marvel comics, so you can make Groot with magic if thats your thing.
Travelers from a World Beyond
The Flora colossus are tree like beings from a strange far away world. Little is know about these strange people, but in this world they tend to live as small communities in places secluded from normal civilization, like amidst mountain ranges, forests, and remote islands.
Ageless Knowledge
The Flora colossus are ruled over by the "Arbor Masters" who teach the children of the species with "Photonic Knowledge," which is the accumulated knowledge of the generations of the Arbor Masters, which is absorbed through photosynthesis; this is a highly advanced education, making the Flora Colossi geniuses.
Tonal Language
Few individuals in the known universe are able to converse with the species due to their esoteric vocabulary: but not impossible to understand. The language seems to be tonal, where a spoken phrase can mean many things, and is incomprehensible to the untrained ear. Being around the language for long enough, you may begin to pick up the meaning.
At your DM's discretion you may choose a phrase such as "I am Groot" that is all you can say, and you will need to use magical means in order to be understood. This sounds like way too much work, but if you really want to play it straight from the source material you should probably ask your DM first. If you choose to do this, remove the speak option from the languages trait.
Flora Colossus Traits
Your evolution from plants affords you a number of traits you share with other flora colossus.
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1, your Constitution score increases by 1, and your Intelligence score increases by 1.
Age. While Flora Colossus do grow from child to adult physically, since they are all clones of each other their true age is unknown.
Alignment. Despite their unnatural size and strength the Flora Colossus are a peaceful and secluded group. They tend towards a neutral alignment.
Size. Flora Colossus are much taller and heavier than most other humanoids, standing normally between 7 1/2 and 9 feet tall and weighing around 450 lbs.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Plant Biology. You have two creature types: humanoid and plant. You can be affected by a game effect if it works on either of your creature types.
Limb Extension. The Flora Colossus can grow at very advanced speed. As an action you can grow 1 foot taller, up to 3 times. In addition, as a bonus action you can extend and reshape your arms into a shield which you can use as if you have proficiency or into a long whip that can be used as natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes with a reach of 10 feet. If you hit with it, you deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier.
Regenerative Healing. As an action, you can activate your natural regenerative powers. You may roll one of your hit dice, expending it, adding your Constitution to the result and gaining that many hit points and cure poison. This trait may be used while you are unconscious. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
Super Strength. When you score a critical hit with a melee weapon attack, you can roll your damage dice one size larger. (1d4 > 1d6 > 1d8 > 1d10 > 1d12 > 2d6 > 2d8)
Spores. You have the ability to produce tiny phosphorescent spores that float through the air and offer dim light in a 30 foot radius around you, but does not travel with you. Once you use this trait it cannot be used again until you complete a short or long rest.
Powerful Build. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, and Sylvan.
