# Otherworldly Patron ### The Darkness Those who seek for power in darkness often find it. Cold, seemingly lifeless and barren, but teeming with unknowable power, beings of darkness beckon to those who will listen. Whether it's beings of the Shadowfell such as the Raven Queen, Nightmares from the Dream Realm of Shuul, or the enigmatic spirit known as Twilus, many powerful magical entities call these "Shadow Warlocks" their servants. #### Expanded Spell List The Darkness lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you. | Spell Level | Spells | |:---:|:-----------| | 1st | *dissonant whispers, ice knife* | | 2nd | *blindness/deafness, silence* | | 3rd | *nondetection, sending* | | 4th | *greater invisibility, ice storm* | | 5th | *cone of cold, legend lore* | #### Friends in Dark Places You can use your action to call upon those that dwell in the dark to aid you in battle. Any creature within 120 ft. of you in dim light or darkness that attacks you before the end of your next turn must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC or take 1d6 cold damage as shadowy forces lash out in your defense. In addition, when a creature takes damage from this ability, you can use your reaction to have them take an additional amount of cold damage equal to your warlock level plus your Charisma modifier. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum once) and regain all uses upon finishing a short or long rest. At 6th level, whenever you kill a creature using this feature, you gain a use of it back and may gain temporary hit points equal to the damage dealt. \columnbreak #### Shadow Puppet At 6th level, you’ve learned how to take your shadow off as a bonus action. This feature turns your shadow into a mindless force that performs simple tasks at your command for 1 hour, as the spell _unseen servant_, except your shadow isn't invisible, and can only travel along surfaces that could have a shadow cast upon them. If you command the servant to perform a task that would move it more than 300 feet away from you, the shadow dissipates and returns to you. #### Shadow Step At 6th level, you gain the ability to step from one shadow into another. When you are in dim light or darkness, as a bonus action you can teleport up to 60 feel to an unoccupied space you can see that is also in dim light or darkness. You then have advantage on the first melee attack you make before the end of the turn. #### Dark Constitution At 10th level, your Patron has inured you to the extremes of temperature; you are a creature of darkness who does not feel the cold, and an inner chill protects you from the heat. You have resistance to cold and fire damage. _(Note that this means that your character will automatically succeed at Constitution checks to survive extreme cold and heat.)_ #### Shadow Traps At 14h level, you've learned how to trap creatures in shadows. As an action, you may force a creature in dim light or darkness that you can see to make a Dexterity saving throw (DC is your Spell Save DC). A creature that fails is grappled by the shadows for 1 minute as they sink into the shadow. At the start of the trapped creature's turn, it may make an Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check to get out of the grapple. You may use this feature once per short or long rest.
