Predator

For some rangers, the wilds are neither a dangerous frontier to be kept at bay, nor a precious and delicate realm in need of protection. The wilds are a home, a place where the feral instincts which they have harbored within themselves for all their life can be freely let loose. Such rangers are known as Predators, for they model themselves on the fiercest beasts, augmenting their shapeshifting powers with the cunning of a hunter.

Predator Magic

The wellspring of primal magic within you allows you to learn spells from the evolutionist class. When your Spellcasting feature lets you learn or replace a ranger spell of 1st level or higher, you can choose the new spell from the ranger spell list or the evolutionist spell list. You must otherwise obey all the restrictions for selecting the spell, and it becomes a ranger spell for you.

In addition, you learn the bloodhound, cat's eyes and camouflage cantrips. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Finally, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Predator Spells table. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn't count against the number of ranger spells you know.

Predator Spells

Ranger Level Spell
3rd hunter's mark
5th chameleon cloak
9th echolocation
13th locate creature
17th unicorn's grace

Iron Stomach

Starting at 7th level, your magic has inured you to mundane dangers. You gain proficiency in Constitution saving throws. Additionally, you can eat anything, including rotten or diseased food, without suffering any ill effects.

Thrill of the Hunt

Starting at 11th level, when you reduce a hostile creature to 0 hit points on your turn, you can immediately take an extra attack action.

You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier before finishing a long rest, and no more than once per round.

Feral Focus

Starting at 15th level, when you hit a creature with an attack or target it with your hunter's mark, you can choose to designate it as your prey. You have advantage on attacks of opportunity made against your prey. Additionally, when your prey would hit you with an attack, you can use your reaction to add your proficiency bonus to AC against that attack, potentially causing it to miss.

You can only have one creature designated as your prey at any given time.

The Ranger, Revised

To make this subclass compatible with the UA Revised Ranger, add the following additional feature:

Extra Attack

Beginning at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the attack action on your turn.
