The Red Comet

Once every couple of years, a spectacular phenomenon occurs as a red comet streaks through the sky. The sheer speed of this wonder leaves most in awe, as the sonic boom can be heard for miles. However, this red streaking across the sky sometimes awakens something in the children that are born under it. Those born the day of the comet are blessed with arcane prowess, and speed to match the red comet itself. The coming of the comet also signals the rise in magic in the realm, as it brings arcane power from all the corners of the universe. This includes monsters, and this is a prime reason as to why people both fear and revere the comet.

Those of the comet live life fast, traveling from place to place and living life to the fullest. They are known to be brash, and risk taking as well. This lends well to their abilities, being able to zip around the battlefield, leaving their enemies in the dust they leave behind.

However, for some reason, children born under this are often seen as a bad fortune, so most parents abandon their children if they are of the comet.

Of the Stars

At 1st level, your body has been irreversibly changed by the streaking red. Your speed is increased by an amount of feet equal to 10 + your Charisma modifier. Additionally, when not wearing any armor, your armor class equals 10 + your Charisma modifier, as the cosmic energy around you provide a natural defense.

Your speed is increased by an additional 5 feet when you reach 6th and 14th level.

You also gain access to the Starstrike cantrip, detailed at the end of this subclass description.

Sonic Boost

At 6th level, you learn to control the incredible speed trapped inside you into short bursts of amazing speed, creating a sonic boom. You may now Dash as a bonus action, and whenever you do, each creature within 10 feet of you must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, they take 1d6 + your Charisma modifier thunder damage, or half as much on a successful save.

Cosmic Velocity

At 14th level, your supernatural speed reaches new levels, as you learn to control the cosmic energy radiating in you to create a number of effects. You gain the following uses of your Sorcery points :

Stardust

When you take the Dash action, you may spend 4 Sorcery points to leave a trail of red dust after you. The trail is 5 feet wide, and whenever a creature enters the space of the streak, it takes 2d6 radiant damage. The dust lasts for an amount of rounds equal to your Charisma modifier.

Sonic Beam

When you take the Dash action, you may spend 6 Sorcery points and use your magic to concentrate the sonic boom left behind by you into a beam. When you do so, at the end of the dash, you release a 5 feet wide and 30 feet long beam of sonic energy. All creatures caught in the beam must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d8 thunder damage.

Gravity Pull

When you take the Dash action, you may spend 5 Sorcery points to create a cloud of cosmic dust. When you do so, at the end of your dash, you release a 15 feet cone of red dust in front of you. All creatures caught in the cone must make a Dexterity saving throw. If they fail, their speed is halved until the end of your next turn.

Additionally, you can now run along vertical surfaces and across liquids on your turn without falling during your move.

Aspect of the Comet

At 18th level, you learn to become the Red Comet itself, streaking across the sky as a literal representation of speed and power. You can now once per long rest streak across the world to a specific destination of your choice. This ability functions like casting the Teleport spell, except that you need to be outside to use it.

You can't use this ability while in combat.

Additionally, your speed is increased by another 10 feet.

Red Comet Quirks

If you want some special Comet related quirks, I got them here. They are of course not needed to play this origin, however, they may provide a bit more flavour for your character. The quirks can be found below. Either roll a d6, or choose to determine your special quirk.

d6 Quirk
1 You leave a faint trail of red dust after you wherever you go.
2 Your hair shifts color to a glowing red color when you get emotional.
3 People that look into your eyes can sometimes see a faint reflection of the red comet, as if you were looking right at it.
4 You have a glowing, pulsing, red line that streaks across your body.
5 Whenever you cast a spell, your eyes glow a cosmic red color.
6 Astrologians feel a slight connection to you, as if looking at you is akin to studying a celestial body.
