# The Elemental Blade A half-elf smirks wildly as the horde of goblins run towards him. He touches the hilt of his sheathed weapon and his eyes glow bright orange. With a quick movement, he sends a torrent of fire towards the oncoming horde. As the bodies hit the floor, he sheathes his blade again, continuing his journey deeper into the Underdark. The gnome watches as her friends charge forward and clash with the oncoming orcs. She watches as her dwarven ally is thrown down bleeding. Her eyes glow blue for a moment as she takes her small dagger from its sheathe and sends a mist out from it over her ally. His wounds begin to close and the dwarf stares at his enemy with a renewed strength and energy, the gnome’s eyes and weapon drawn and glowing. Gathered around the small campfire, the party rests their weary bodies. Suddenly and silently, arrows ring out towards a sleeping wizard from the surrounding forest. The hooded fighter reacts just in time, shoving his greataxe into the earth and raising a wall of stone to protect his ally. Removing his weapon from the ground, the earth retreats. He stands strong, releases a hardy laugh, and runs into the fray. ## Sheathed Weapons An elemental blade is one who tries to keep the peace and fights when it is the final option. Weapons that are sheathed emanate the aura of trust and calm for which an elemental blade strives. These fighters value peaceful negotiations, but know that not all foes can be dealt with using only words. Blades are quickly unsheathed when an enemy threatens the Blade, their friends, or their element. ## Devoted Warriors Fighters who wish to study fit the archetype of the elemental blade learn to use their weapons as conduits for harnessing the powers of the elements. They spend many years in deep meditation to understand both their physical bodies and weapons as well as the powers of the natural world. Wielders of this power can vary from agile and precise to slow and powerful, but all reflect some facet of the natural world. \columnbreak ## Unsheathing At level 3, your training as an elemental blade has just begun. You gain access to four different elemental styles to draw from when you draw your weapon, known as “Unsheathing”. You harness the elemental powers twice per short or long rest. The elemental styles are listed below. A beginning blade can channel the elements twice, regaining both charges on a short or long rest. ### Volcanic Blade You channel the burning power of fire through your weapon, harming those who wish ill for you or your allies. As an action, you unsheathe your weapon and send a burst of fire in a 5 foot by 20 foot line. All enemies in the column must make a Dexterity Saving Throw with a DC of 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution Modifier. An enemy who fails to save takes 1d12 fire damage, and an enemy who saves takes half of that damage. At 10th level, this die increases to 2d12. At 18th level, this die increases to 3d12. ### Storm Blade Lightning courses from your weapon into your body upon being drawn. As a bonus action on your turn, the elemental blade can channel this energy to act with unnatural speed and agility. This grants 10 extra movement speed that ends at the beginning of your next turn and, due to your now blinding speed, enemies are unable to take attacks of opportunity against you until the start of your next turn. Additionally, any enemy who strikes you during this round of combat will receive thunder damage equal to your constitution modifier. ### Waterfall Blade A watery mist springs from your weapon upon it being drawn, washing away blood and soothing the hurts off those who work with you. As an action, you spray water from your blade, healing a number of creatures up to a number equal to your proficiency bonus for 1d6 points of health. At 10th level, this die becomes 1d8. At level 15, ### Mountain Blade Your conduit is strong enough to affect even the stone beneath one's feet. As a reaction, you raise a stone slab in front of an ally in an attempt to disrupt an attack from range. Roll 1d6 and add that to a creature's armor class until the start of your next turn. This area remains and can be used as partial cover for the remainder of the fight at the discretion of the Dungeon Master. At 10th level, this die increases to 1d8. \pagebreak ## Calm Before the Storm Also at level 3, the fighter gains proficiency in the Persuasion skill. If the fighter already has proficiency in persuasion, they may choose a different skill instead. ## Elemental Assault At level 7, the Elemental Blade’s attacks are now considered magical for the purposes of overcoming resistance and immunity. ## Unleashing Power At level 10, the blade learns to harness the elements from the Unsheathing for longer amounts of time. Once your weapon is unsheathed the element that you have chosen remains on your blade for a follow up attack, dealing an extra 1d6 when you next hit with your weapon. Also at level 10, you can use your **"Unsheathing"** abilites a third time before you must rest to regain all uses. ## Elemental Onslaught At 15th level, whenever you roll for initiative without any uses of “Unsheathed Weapon” you regain a use of it. ## We are One By 15 th level, your weapon and the elements are forever bonded. Your weapon always deals extra damage when you strike of whatever element you most recently used with your **"Unsheathing"** ability. This bonus damage equals the damage die of the weapon and is fire damage for your volcanic blade, lightning damage for your Storm Blade, ice damage for your Waterfall Blade, and force damage for your Mountain Blade.
