Barbarian: Path of the Vitriolic

Path of the Vitriolic barbarians understand that sticks and stones are good for breaking bones, but words are useful for hurting people too. Unlike the stereotypical barbarian, they are often fairly clever and have a good grasp of language, which they use to unleash scathing insults upon their enemies in battle. Aggressive and argumentative, they know how to leverage their inner rage even when punching isn't an option.

Verbal Rage

Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you can tear people down with words as well as you can with a weapon. As an action, you can shout a vicious insult at a creature within 60 feet of you. If it can hear you, it must pass a Wisdom save or take 1d6 + your Charisma modifier psychic damage and have disadvantage on its next attack roll before the end of its next turn. Add your Rage Damage modifier if you are raging. This counts as an attack for the purposes of maintaining your rage.

The damage increases to 2d6 at 5th level, 3d6 at 11th level, and 4d6 at 17th level.

Fierce Debate

At 6th level, while you are raging, you have advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) and Charisma (Intimidation) checks. This benefit continues for 10 minutes after your rage ends.

Explicative

At 10th level, you learn to rage at the first sign of danger by shouting a quick, primal explicative. You can enter a rage as a reaction when you are targeted by an attack, or before you make a saving throw. If you are hit by the attack or take damage after the saving throw, any damage you take is halved. You cannot use this ability if you are surprised, or if you are already raging.

Adding Insult to Injury

At 14th level, when you hit a creature with a weapon attack while raging, you can use your Verbal Rage ability on them as a bonus action.
