Heart of The Fallen Star

Artifact, Legendary (Requires Attunement)

"I have lived to see even the best minds destroyed by madness"

This small dense stone appears spongy. It is said that it is the remains of a star that fell to the ground at the feet of long since forgotten king. When held in the hands of a living person the Fallen Star begins to glow, and spark with magic light, and it feels warm to the touch. The stone flashes with a bright blue light whenever a shooting star passes by, and compels people that hold it to eat it.

Fiery Heart

When eaten, the Fallen Star causes your heart to leave your chest as a bright blue flame. Your Heart then takes a shape and gains consciousness as though it were a Familiar of the Find Familiar spell, with the following alterations.

Your Heart may also take the form Crow, Flame, Otter, or Spirit for which stats are detailed below.

Your Heart will always be the same creature and type, and will only change forms if you change alignment. If your alignment changes, due to non-magical means, you may choose a new form and type for your Heart.

Your Heart is proficient in the same saves you are. Additionally, you may add your proficiency bonus to your Heart's AC.

In combat, your Heart shares your initiative, but acts on its own turn before or after yours. Your Heart can attack and take actions as normal.

If you give your Heart a command that goes against your person it may disregard it. Your Heart can also sense your motives, and will sometimes act on your desires independently.

If Your Heart takes damage it is transfered to you instead. Damaging spells that would affect both you and your Heart only affect you.

When you drop to 0 HP your Heart becomes incapacitated and prone as well. If you are restored to 1 HP your Heart returns to normal as well. If you die your Heart disappears, leaving behind no physical form.

You are compelled to keep your Heart within 1 mile of you at all times. If you travel further away from your Heart you gain the poisoned condition, even if you are normally immune to this condition, until you are reunited with your heart.

You may not put your heart in a pocket dimension. Instead, as an action on your turn when you are within 5ft of your Heart you may recall it into your body. Your Heart may also preform this action on its turn under the same circumstances. While your Heart is merged with you, on your turn you may expend an action to manifest it outside of your body, expelling a blue flame that returns to the shape of your Heart.

Additionally, when your Heart is manifested outside of your body you gain the following effects:

  • Your heartbeat harmlessly stops.
  • You cannot be frightened, charmed, or magically put to sleep.
  • If your Heart is frightened, charmed, or magically put to sleep you both take that condition, even if you are otherwise immune.
  • You always know the relative direction of your Heart.

Focus of The Heart

When you Heart is not manifested outside of your body, you can use it as a spellcasting focus, allowing you gain the effects of having a spellcasting focus with your bare hand.

When using your Heart as a spellcasting focus you must use your outstretched hand to channel the spell, meaning that all spells cast this way have a somatic component, even if they would not otherwise.

When casting a spell this way your hand becomes surrounded in harmless, pale blue or orange flame.

Furthermore, when your heart is manifested outside of your body, you can cast spells originating from it. Both you and your Heart must be able to preform the somatic and verbal components of the spell, where applicable, in order to cast the spell.

Curse of the Lost Heart

After consuming this item you become attuned to it as your heart leaves your body for the first time, and you become cursed by it, even if you would otherwise be immune to curses. This curse prevents you from unattuning this item. This curse can only be broken by death, or a wish spell.

Additionally, you can no longer fall in love.

Face Memory. The crow remembers all faces it has seen within the last day. Additionally, the crow has advantage on relevant checks to recall a face it has seen.

Otter

Semi-Aquatic. While underwater, the otter has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to find creatures or items, and can hold its breath twice as long as it would otherwise be able.

Pocket. The otter has a small pocket that can hold up to .5lbs.

Spirit
