Roguish Archetype: Brigand

Unlike most rogues that pride themselves on their quick wit and deft touch, you've found that you can accomplish a lot more by simply being bigger and stronger than the competition, or using other underhanded methods in the rare chance that you aren't. Many bandits, pirates, and thugs follow this archetype, and find themselves at home in the seedy underbellies of cities where criminals thrive.

Enforcer

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with martial weapons and the Intimidation or Athletics skill if you don't already have it. Your hit point maximum and current hit points also increase by an amount equal to your Rogue level.

Fighting Style

At 3rd level, you adopt a style of fighting as your specialty. Choose one of the following options. You can’t take a Fighting Style option more than once, even if something in the game lets you choose again.

Dueling

When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with that weapon.

Thrown Weapon Fighting

You can draw a weapon that has the thrown property as part of the attack you make with the weapon. In addition, when you hit with a ranged attack using a thrown weapon, you gain a +1 bonus to the damage roll.

Unarmed Fighting

Your unarmed strikes can deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier. If you strike with two free hands, the d6 becomes a d8. When you successfully start a grapple, you can deal 1d4 bludgeoning damage to the grappled creature. Until the grapple ends, you can also deal this damage to the creature whenever you hit it with a melee attack.

Back-Alley Bruiser

Starting at 3rd level, you can use the Grapple or Shove action as a bonus action. Additionally, you can use your Sneak Attack when making melee or ranged attacks with one-handed weapons using Strength. All the other rules for Sneak Attack still apply to you.

Meat Shield

Starting at 9th level, you gain the following benefits while grappling a creature:

  • You gain a +2 bonus to your AC and Dexterity saving throws if you're the same size as the grappled creature, and a +5 bonus if it's one size larger. You lose this benefit if the grappled creature is prone.
  • When you use your Uncanny Dodge feature, you can choose to deal the original amount of damage to the grappled creature if the attack would also hit it, and it wasn't the source of the damage.
  • You suffer no movement penalties caused by moving with a creature you are grappling.

Show of Force

At 13th level, you can push a creature a number of feet up to your Strength score away from you when you shove it. You also have advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks against creatures that are grappled or prone.

Alpha Dog

By 17th level, you can use your brutish physicality to terrorize foes as an action. When you do so, choose one creature within 5ft of you. Make a Charisma (Intimidation) check contested by the target's Wisdom (Insight) check. If your check succeeds, the target is Frightened by you until the end of your next turn, and is also considered Paralyzed if you are grappling it. This effect ends if the creature ends its turn out of line of sight or more than 15 feet away from you.

If your check fails, the target can't be frightened by you in this manner for 24 hours.
