# Need a Light? Lanterns are fundamentally powerful in a very mundane sense. Without light, so much of the world is blind, but lanterns themselves are a blank slate.
### Elflight *Wondrous item (lantern), uncommon* This hooded lantern was polished until it shined like silver. While the magic on it is considered subtle by surface folks, it is horror to the denizens of the underdark. The light of this lantern is treated as magical darkness for all creatures with the Sunlight Sensitivity trait. ### Drowbane *Wondrous item, rare* This modified *Elflight* takes a much more proactive approach to pushing back the ancestral enemies of its creators. The magic encrusted in its orichalcum decoration has become a favorite of Underdark Crusaders who seek to cleanse the underground tunnels for future Sun Elf habitation. The light of this lantern is treated as magical darkness for all creatures with the Sunlight Sensitivity trait. Creatures with the Sunlight Sensitivity trait within this magical darkness take 1d8 cold damage when they enter the area or start their turn there. ### Shar'tleg (Turnabout) *Wondrous item, rare* As a reaction to being targeted by the popularization of *Elfights*, Drow have begun production of something similar. These hooded lanterns release an area of magical darkness that only creatures with Superior Darkvision or Devilsight may see through. ### Lantern of Retrocognition *Wondrous item, rare* This hooded lantern seems rusted but doesn't make a sound when opened and is always covered by a fine layer of dust. Once per day, you may perform a 10 minute ritual. As part of the ritual, choose a date and time within the last year. You see an illusory recreation of everything that happened within the area the lantern's light currently touches for a 10 minute period beginning at the time you chose. ### Anachrona *Wondrous item, legendary* This *Lantern of Retrocognition* has been specifically modified and boosted beyond its regular capabilities. When you perform its ritual, it does not create an illusory recreation of your chosen time. Instead, the time you choose and your current time coexist within its light for the duration. While the ritual goes on, you may speak to and interact with people and objects from the past at your chosen time. You may not choose a time that would cause you to interact with a past version of yourself or anyone else within the lantern's light. While the ritual persists, the area within the lantern's light in your time and the target time exist on a separate demiplane outside the time stream. You may only use this ritual once per week. ### Nourishing Ray *Wondrous item, very rare* While in the light of this bullseye lantern, creatures do not age, require food or drink, or need to breathe. This lantern consumes oil twice as quickly as an ordinary lantern for every creature it is sustaining. ### Shapechanger's Bane *Wondrous item, very rare* This hooded lantern is made of blacksteel, specifically forged to thwart doppelgangers and other infiltrators. While within the light of this lantern and creatures not in their true form take 2d8 radiant damage at the start of this turn. Shapechangers are vulnerable to this damage and creatures polymorphed or otherwise changed against their will are transformed back to their true form. While this lantern burns, creatures cannot shapeshift, polymorph, or otherwise change forms, including petrification, although petrified creatures are not saved by this lantern's light.
