"Geo-gnomes; Slightly smarter than a pet rock."

- Dungeon Pet Magazine.

Geo-gnomes are so named due to their diminutive size rather than their relationship to actual gnomes. Some find their waddling gait and vacant expression endearing, and they have been known to form bonds with magic users, most often druids or geomancers. Geo-gnomes make very low maintenance traveling companions as their diet consists mainly of rocks and small insects.

Diamond in the Rough. Despite no discernible eyes, geo-gnomes sight is perfectly fine. The precious gems that adorn their faces function as their eyes, and are even able to refract the faintest glimmer of lights to allow them to see in low-light environments. The downside of this evolutionary pathway is that some unscrupulous individuals farm geo-gnomes for their precious gems. Although the gems regrow within several months, the act is still comparable in brutally to organ harvesting, and is unimaginably painful for the geo-gnome.

Elemental Magic. Due to their elemental nature, geo-gnomes can draw on some innate power from the elemental plane of earth. Relatively unintelligent, much of a geo-gnomes behaviour is instinctive, including its use of its magic. More often than not, a confronted geo-gnome will knock opponents down with tremors in the ground, and burrow to safety. When given no other option, the geo-gnome tosses magic-imbued rocks to deter attackers.

Variant: Geo-gnome Familiar

Some geo-gnomes are willing to serve spellcasters as a familiar. Such geo-gnomes have the following trait.

Familiar. The geo-gnome can serve another creature as a familiar, forming a magic, telepathic bond with that willing companion. While the two are bonded, the companion can sense what the geo-gnome senses as long as they are within 1 mile of each other. While the geo-gnome is within 10 feet of its companion, the companion shares the geo-gnome's Stone Camouflage trait, and has advantage on saving throws against being petrified.
