Primal Path
At 3rd level, a barbarian gains the Primal Path feature. The following option is available to a barbarian, in addition to the options offered in the Players Handbook.
Path of the Grinch
For many barbarians, their anger comes from some primal hatred writhing inside of them, one that seeks to consume them if not channeled through combat. For you, your hatred is for the very idea of happiness itself, rejecting the celebrations of the holidays, and instead stoking the flame of anger in others through doing so.
Path of the Grinch Features
| Barbarian Level | Feature |
|---|---|
| 3rd | Mutual Unhappiness |
| 6th | Joyslayer |
| 10th | Discouraging Glare |
| 14th | Intensified Unhappiness |
If a feature in this path requires a saving throw, the DC is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier.
Mutual Unhappiness
When you choose this path, at 3rd level, whenever you enter a rage, you can invoke the same anger in a creature within 30 feet of yourself. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw, or for the duration of your rage, it is consumed with negative feelings. It can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
While a creature is consumed by negative feelings, it must use its action on each of its turns to either take the Attack action, or cast a spell that deals damage. If the creature targets a creature other than you with an attack or harmful spell, it must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature must target you or lose the attack or spell.
Joyslayer
Beginning at 6th level, whenever you reduce a creature to 0 hit points while raging, you can use your bonus action to break the morale of a creature of your choice within 30 feet. That creature must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw, or be frightened by you for the duration of your rage. It can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
Discouraging Glare
Starting at 10th level, your stare brings unease to all those who see it. Whenever a creature you can see within 30 feet of yourself that can see you makes an ability check, you can use your reaction to give that creature disadvantage on the check.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (a minimum of once), and regain all expended uses after a short or long rest.
Intensified Unhappiness
At 14th level, when you use your Mutual Unhappiness feature, you can target any number of creatures within 30 feet of yourself, instead of only one, to consume with negative feelings.
