Sacred Oath

At 3rd level, a paladin gains the Sacred Oath feature. The Oath of Sacrifice is another option available to paladins.

Oath of Sacrifice

Those sworn to the Oath of Sacrifice put themselves in harms way to protect the innocent, smite the unholy and end those who wreak havoc in this world. They are always striving to further the cause of justice and of the light, with little care for themselves or their bodies, often bearing visible marks of their many battles. Sometimes called crimson knights for their tendency to paint their own armors a crimson red, be it with their own blood and the blood of their enemies during battles or with paint to show their ideals.

Tenets of Sacrifice

Tough the specifics and arrangements of the Oath of Sacrifice may vary, the general ideas are as such:

No sacrifice is too great. To protect those who in need, and hunt those who wish them harm, there is no price to great to pay.

Courage. Never fear to act, tough caution is wise.

Kindle your light. Delight in song and laughter, in beauty and art. If you allow the sacrifices you make to marrow your inner light, you may turn into the very evil you mar your body fighting against.

Push forward. Be the vanguard against evil, shine your light and show the others that even in the darkest of times, there is always a way.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Oath of Sacrifice Spells
Paladin Level Spells

Channel Divinity

Beginning at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Rallying cry. As a reaction, when a friendly creature that you can see takes damage, you can reduce the damage by 1d10 + your charisma modifier + your paladin level. If this reduces the damage to 0, the friendly creature is unaffected by any other effect from the same source as the damage. If the damage is not reduced to 0, you take the remaining damage instead, and it cannot be reduced in any way.

Inspiring sight. As an action, you present your holy symbol, and choose a number of creatures up to your charisma modifiers. The chosen creatures may immediately make a saving throw to remove any conditions they are currently affected and gain temporary hit points equal to 1d4 times your paladin level.

Crimson Resilience

Starting at 7th level, you are accustomed to taking hits. Whenever you are bellow half of your max hit points, any damage you take is reduced by your charisma modifier, to a minimum of 0.

Sacrificial Strike

At 15th level, once per turn when you use your Divine Smite feature, you may reroll the extra damage and choose either total. When you do so, you take 2d10 necrotic damage that can't be reduced in any way. Additionally, your target now has vulnerability to radiant damage until the beginning of your next turn.

Crimson Scourge

At 20th level, the paladin can, as an action, undergo a transformation.
For 1 minute you gain the following benefits:

  • When you enter this form, you gain temporary hit points equal to 1d10 per spent hit die.
  • You shed bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light 30 feet beyond that.
  • As a bonus action, or when you take damage from a hostile creature, you deal 2d10 radiant damage to every hostile creature in a 30-foot radius.
  • You gain resistance to necrotic damage and immunity to radiant damage.
  • If you fall unconscious in this form, your body releases a burst of radiant energy, dealing 10d10 radiant damage all hostile creatures in a 60-foot radius, and the transformation ends.
