College of Fireworks

This Bardic College is all about creating and using magical fireworks, spell-like effects that are unique to your particular style. Fireworks Bards, also called pyros, or sky painters, use their technical skill and talent to inspire the masses, letting the booms and crackles of their work speak for them.

Bonus Proficiencies

When you join the College of Fireworks at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in alchemist's supplies. You have training in the creation of pyrotechnics, or perhaps invented them yourself.

Firework Display

At 3rd level, you gain access to a special firework display, that allows you to use your dazzling technique to attack your enemies.

Firework Shot. As an action, you can expend a use of Bardic Inspiration to make a ranged spell attack against a point within 60 feet of you. This attack deals an amount of radiant damage equal to your Bardic Inspiration die roll.

Firework Shells. You also have access to a certain number of firework shells (see Firework Shell Options below), that provide different benefits for your firework shot.

You learn two firework shell options when you choose this college at 3rd level; one primary option, and one secondary option. You gain an additional option of each type at 7th, 11th, and 15th level. Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can choose any firework shell option you know and replace it with a different one.

Whenever you make a Firework Shot, you can choose any one primary shell option, and any one secondary shell option, and apply each effect to the spell attack. If a shell option subjects a creature to a saving throw, the DC is equal to your spell save DC.

Exploding Inspiration

At 6th level, whenever someone you've inspired rolls the maximum value on a Bardic Inspiration die, they can choose to roll the die an additional time and add the roll to the result.

Improved Firework Shot

At 6th level, the radiant damage of your Firework Shot is equal to twice the amount of your Bardic Inspiration die roll.

Grand Finale

At 14th level, when you inspire a creature with your last use of Bardic Inspiration, that creature can treat its inspiration die roll as if it had rolled its maximum value.

Mortar Master

At 14th level, your pyrotechnic technique is immaculately consistent. The radiant damage of your Firework Shot is equal to three times the amount of your Bardic Inspiration die roll.

Additionally, you can fire off a firework shot without expending a use of Bardic Inspiration, using a d6 as the damage die, as well as any single firework shell option that you know.

Firework Shell Options

Primary Options

The following options are presented in alphabetical order.

Brocade. Your firework shot deals an additional amount of radiant damage equal to your Charisma modifier.

Candle. Your firework shot's damage type changes from radiant to fire, and ignites all flammable objects within 15 feet of the target that are not being worn or carried,

Diadem. When you use your firework shot, a cloud of smoke fills a 15 foot radius sphere around your target that lasts until the end of your next turn, causing that area to be heavily obscured.

Palm. When you target a creature with your firework shot, you can target up to 2 additional creatures within 15 feet of the first target. You make separate attack rolls for each target.

Spinner. You pack an unpredicatable secondary payload into your firework. When your firework shot hits or misses its target, you make a second spell attack roll at advantage against a random creature within 30 feet of the first target.

Tourbillon. Your firework shots rocket with tremendous speed and ferocity. The range of your firework shot increases to 90 feet, and also ignores half and three-quarters cover.

Waterfall. Your firework shot lets loose a deluge of pitted ammunition where it impacts. The area within 15 feet of your target becomes difficult terrain for 1 minute.

Secondary Options

The following options are presented in alphabetical order.

Chrysanthemum. Until the beginning of your next turn, a creature who starts or ends its turn within 10 feet of where you fire the firework must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw, or suffer fire damage equal to your Charisma modifier.

Comet. A creature hit by your firework shot must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be pushed up to 15 feet away from you.

Crosette. A creature hit by your firework shot must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Fish. When you use a firework shot, any creature in the line between you and the target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or suffer half of the firework's damage.

Girandola. Each creature within 15 feet of your target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw, or suffer 1 thunder damage and be deafened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat this saving throw at the end of each of its turns. This firework shot is especially loud, and can be heard up to 300 feet away.

Peony. Your firework shots sacrifice thunderous sound for a brilliant sparkle, and are completely silent. The target only hears a faint whistling as it approaches.

Willow. Your firework shots become dazzlingly brilliant. Each creature within 15 feet of your target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw, or be blinded for 1 minute. A creature can repeat this saving throw at the end of each of its turns.
