# Cybertronian (Starfinder) A race of robotic beings from the long dead planet of Cybertron, the cybertronians are a race that can vary widely in size and shape. The race is highly splintered, and has a high tendency for infighting, after millennia of civil war that not only made their homeworld inhospitable, but also led to a deep, nigh unrepairable societal rift. In recent years, that rift has begun to close as their war finally came to an end, but old wounds take quite a long time to heal. Roaming Cybertronians have taken up hold in many corners of the galaxy, experiencing biological life for the first time.

### Size and Type Most Cybertronians are Large, however the size of a Cybertronian depends on their alternate mode, as well as their classification. The larger the Alternate Mode, the larger the Cybertronian. All cybertronians aside from very rare variants are constructs with the technological subtype. Cybertronians who take on a biological alternate mode also gain the subtype of their alternate mode. ### Darkvision Cybertronians can see up to 60 feet in the dark. ### Integrated Equipment A Cybertronian has an internal, integrated standard datajack and comm unit. If a Cybertronian is helpless, these can be removed or destroyed without damaging the Cybertronian. They can be replaced or upgraded for the normal price of this equipment. A Cybertronian has an additional built-in cybernetic component with an item level no greater than half the Cybertronian’s character level (minimum item level 1). Each time the Cybertronian gains a level, they can swap out this piece of equipment at no additional cost to represent internal reconfigurations. These pieces of equipment don’t count against the systems in which an Cybertronian can install cybernetics. \columnbreak ### Robotic Cybertronians are immune to bleed, disease, death effects, poison, nonlethal damage, and sleep effects unless those effects specify they affect constructs. Cybertronians can be affected by effects or spells that normally target only humanoids, but receive a +4 racial bonus to saving throws against such effects. Cybertronians can eat and drink, though they don’t need to, and they must recharge their internal batteries by entering an off-line mode that is similar to sleep for 8 hours every day. Cybertronians do not breathe or suffer the normal environmental effects of being in a vacuum. ### Alternate Mode All Cybertronians come with an inherent ability to change into another form. Most Cybertronians can only have one Alternate Mode at a time, although there are a select few who can have multiple alternate modes. These are exceedingly rare, however. Each Cybertronian comes with a built in scanner that they are able to use to scan an alternate mode. Almost anything can be used as an alternate mode, from simple objects such as knives or boots, to things like projectile weapons and other devices. The most common alternate modes however, are vehicles, as well as organic life. A Cybertronian can scan and successfully transform into an alternate mode that is up to two sizes larger than the Cybertronian, or two sizes smaller. Scanning an Alternate Mode takes ten minutes, as it takes time for the Cybertronian to physically adjust their body to accomodate parts for their new alternate mode. For alternate modes that take on the form of equipment, the equipment level cannot be greater than the Cybertronian's level. For both vehicles and biological forms, the Cybertronian takes on all of the vehicle's stats except for the HP. The vehicle can be boarded by other creatures, and can be driven by other creatures, but the Cybertronian is also able to drive itself if necessary. A Cybertronian is considered proficient in any weapons attached to their Alternate Mode. If a Cybertronian chooses an Alternate Mode that has a required Complement, the Complement can be ignored, so long as the Cybertronian is the pilot. If another creature is inside the Cybertronian's vehicle Alternate Mode when the Cybertronian transforms, the creature(s) inside the Cybertronian must make a Dexterity Saving throw (DC10) or take heavy damage. Additional specialized Alternate Modes are available, but are detailed under the Classification section. \pagebreak ### Classification Cybertronians are classified under many different subtypes, depending on their alternate mode, their place of origin, or other defining variables. Although the classifications can seem similar, it is extremely difficult for a Cybertronian to switch classifications, unless their original body is destroyed and they are placed into a new one. The most common reason for classification is Alternate Mode. Cybertronians that turn into vehicles or other mechanical objects do not need further classification. Cybertronians that have organic Alternate Modes are typically referred to as Beastformers, although their choice of organic Alternate Mode is not restricted to Beasts and rarely they can also take on a plant-based alternate mode. One important distinction about Beastformers is that they are unable to take the alternate mode of any sentient species, such as the Humans or Chirruns. The only Cybertronians able to change into sentient lifeforms are those of the Pretender classification. Pretender Cybertronians are able to hide themselves within a large shell that then shrinks to attempt to pass as organic, sentient lifeforms. Pretender Cybertronians are not limited to this, however as monstrous Pretenders as well as vehicle-based pretenders have also been spotted. Something very important to keep in mind with Pretender Cybertronians is that any damage taken by the shell is passed on to the main Cybertronian.

##### Pretender | HP | Size | STR | CON |CHA | |:---:|:---:|:---|:---:| :---:| | 6HP | Large | -2 | +1 | +2 |
The most common type of classification refers to the smaller Cybertronians, which turn into a wide variety of things. Cybertronians that turn into weapons for regular sized Cybertronians to wield are referred to as Targetmasters. Cybertronians can also turn into power sources for regular sized Cybertronians, and these go by one of two names, either Powermasters or Mini-Cons, with the principle difference being that Mini-Cons possess a distinct alternate mode independent of their power-based function, while Powermasters most commonly turn into engines. Headmasters are one of the most unique Cybertronians, being able to turn into a head for a larger body henceforth referred to as a Transtector. These Transtectors are typically the size of a regular Cybertronian and possess an Alternate mode that the Headmaster is able to pilot. If a Transtector is left in robot mode, it is unable to move until attached with a Headmaster. If a Transtector is left in its Alternate Mode, it is able to be piloted by any creature proficient with the vehicle type. If a Headmaster is not connected to its Transtector, any damage taken by the Transtector is not passed on to the Headmaster.

\pagebreak Another odd quirk of Cybertronians is their ability to combine with each other. Combiners are formed when multiple Cybertronians physically combine with each other to form a much larger, more formidable Cybertronian. Typically a Combiner does not have its own Alternate Mode, and is treated as its own creature. Almost all Combiners are unstable in some way, due to the conflicting personalities of their components. The only recorded stable Combiners are instances in which one component of the Combiner is able to suppress all other components of the Combiner, or instances in which the Combiner is served by one simple, unifying purpose. All Combiners are Gargantuan, and add the Siege ability to all attacks, which doubles all damage dealt to structures and heavy vehicles. **Author's Note: For the purposes of this racial guide, a stat block will not be provided for a Combiner component subtype at this time, as it would require multiple Cybertronians of matching type to function properly. Due to this limitation, it is impossible to create a unified stat block for all Combiner component Cybertronians and as such, they will be treated as regular Cybertronians.** ### Playing a Cybertronian
##### You likely..... - Have if not an existing allegiance to one of the primary factions, then a past allegiance. - Avoid non-mechanical life - Are quite proficient with laser-based weaponry - Have an innate distrust of vehicles.
##### Other Races Probably..... - Mistake you for a SRO or other robotic lifeform - Fear you if you are much larger than them. - Will attempt to take advantage of you if they realize you have an alternate mode that is of use to them. - Assume you are a soldier.
\columnbreak ### Physical Description All regular Cybertronians are tall, typically humanoid robotic creatures. Due to their Alternate Mode ability, the actual physical appearance of a Cybertronian can vary much more than most biological races, due to components such as wings or wheels being incorporated into their robotic forms. Most Cybertronians range from 10 to 16 feet tall, with Beastformers being closer to 10 feet. All of the smaller -"Master" classifications, as well as the Mini-cons are classified as Medium, and usually are not larger than 6 feet tall. The actual facial structure of most Cybertronians is humanoid, with some even having approximations of facial hair, although the most common face attachment is a faceplate that obscures the nose and mouth. Ears are not present on most Cybertronians, although they can hear quite well. If the physical form of a Cybertronian is damaged or destroyed, it is not immediately killed. Once the body is damaged enough, or if the Cybertronian willingly opens its containment chamber, the Spark is revealed. Sparks cannot typically survive outside of a body for long, although external containment chambers do exist to hold a Spark outside of the main body. If a Spark is removed from a Cybertronian's body, it is able to be placed in a new one, with no memory loss. A Spark can also be divided, although the results are typically tenuous at best. The most common example of this is the Duocons, mentioned above. Combiners typically do not possess their own Sparks, and are instead comprised of the Sparks of their components. ### Home world The home world of the Cybertronians is completely uninhabitable due to both their mechanical nature, as well as the results of their millennia long war. The planet of Cybertron lacks any sort of atmosphere and is constructed entirely out of metal. The planet is completely drained of all natural resources, with the core having gone cold long ago. Most of the cities of Cybertron are completely destroyed, however in recent years there have been attempts to rebuild. \pagebreak ### Society and Alignment Prior to the end of the war, Cybertronian society was almsot entirely focused around the civil war between the Autobots and the Decepticons. The faction alliances would split apart families and close friendships, with the Decepticons vowing for freedom and equality, yet utilizing tactics such as murder and torture to achieve their aims while the Autobots claimed the same but did not resort to the same level of depravity. The smaller factions of the Maximals and Predacons are also present, although allegiance to those factions is typically only posessed by Beastformers. The Predacons align themselves morally with the Decepticons, while the Maximals align themselves morally with the Autobots. Vehicons are a splinter faction of the Predacons, obsessed with wiping out all Cybertronians with an organic alternate mode. These align morally with the Predacons. A single faith encompasses Cybertronian society, the belief in Primus, the creator god of the Cybertronians. This massive robotic being is said to form the planet Cybertron by himself, but no Cybertronian has ever seen this being. Primus is opposed by the voracious Unicron, a massive planet sized being that turns into a moon with large horns sticking out of it. According to Cybertronian legend, it is said that in the end times, Unicron will devour not just the Cybertronians that follow Primus, but the entire planet of Cybertron itself. With the advent of the war, some Cybertronians have begun to disbelieve in the Primus mythos, passing it off as just another ancient myth. ### Relations Cybertronians, while relatively new to intergalactic society, do not have any particularly strained relationships with any of the other species. They seem to have the most interaction with humans, although the Vesk have been known to trade for Decepticon weaponry when they make it available. While most Decepticons will see other species as merely a means to an end, most Autobots have been known to be quite amicable with other species. They see a bit of themselves in the SRO's, however typically Cybertronians see themselves as above the simpler machines. \columnbreak ### Adventurers After eons and eons of war, the Cybertronians have become incredibly curious about the wider universe and those that live in it. Some Cybertronians adventure out just to interact with the locals, while others seek a purpose outside of their own war-torn society. Due to their history, many Cybertronians are willing to be hired guns, especially former Decepticons and Predacons. Others have taken on more mundane jobs, such as bartending or maintenance crews. Cybertronians are highly valued in the starship industry due to their innate understanding of the technology and ability to work out in the vacuum. ### Names Names for Cybertronians can be incredibly varied, although it typically relates to their Alternate Mode. Some Cybertronians go by simple letter/number combinations, a reflection of the serial codes they were given at construction. Some example Cybertronian names are: Jetstorm, Blitzwing, Sixshot, Red Alert, Springer, Brunt, Star Saber, Metalhawk, Arcee, Greenlight, and Bruticus.
