Hadozee, deck apes

The Hadozee, also colloquially called "deck apes", are simian humanoids with a membrane of skin between their arms and legs that allows them to glide. Hadozee originate from lands of lush jungles, and have a deep respect for nature and it's beauties. However they love traveling and visiting ever more exotic locations. Hadozee now inhabit many far reaches as they frequently serve as mercenary crew members for ship and naval fleets.

Hadozee generally wear minimal or no clothing (except in cold weather), as most clothing would interfere with their gliding membranes. They wear special caftans with slit sides on ceremonial occasions, or when in an unfamiliar port.

Foulmouthed crewmen

Despite being friendly and hard working, hadozee are rude, and foulmouthed. A hadozee can utter a continuous stream of insults and derision, with tongues sharp enough to make the most seasoned sailor take notice. For the hadozee this rudeness is a way to express camaraderie. So much that they also invariably give blunt nicknames to everyone they interact with, and will only use proper names and rank when there is a serious problem, or they are dead serious about a topic.

Hadozee Names

Hadozee have a proper name, and clan name, but they rarely use it. Instead they pick a moniker that their crew has given them, and "wear" it with pride as their trademark.

Hadozee Traits

As a hadozee you gain the following traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity increases by 2, and your Wisdom increases by 1.

Age. Hadozee reach adulthood at the age of 20. Most active hadozee are young, as they retire tend to their jungle worlds afterwards. On average they can live about 200 years.

Size. Hadozee are on average taller than humans, however they slouch, making them appear a foot smaller than they really are. Young hadozee are slender, but they tend to gain weight as they age. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Hadozee, which includes many elven words, and insults from most other languages.

Agile Climber. You have a climbing speed of 30 feet as long as you are not encumbered or wearing heavy armor.

Prehensile Feet. You have prehensile feet and gain the following options if you sacrifice half your movement on your turn:

  • You can use your feet to make an additional object interaction even if both of your hands are occupied. You cannot use your feet to receive the benefits of a shield, or provide somatic components for spells.
  • You can wield weapons that have the light property, this doesn't give you an extra attack, but does allow you to attack normally or perform normal two-weapon fighting attacks even when climbing on ropes, trees, or similar environments.

Monkey Fighting. While climbing, when you make a melee attack on your turn you can increase the reach for a single attack by 5 feet. Additionally when climbing you can take disengage as a bonus action on each of your turns.

Gliding Leap. You can use the membranes between your limbs as wings to slow your fall or allow you to glide. When you fall and aren't incapacitated, you can subtract up to 100 feet from the fall when calculating falling damage, and you can move up to 2 feet horizontally for every 1 foot you descend.

Deck Apes. Hadozee are rugged sailors. You are proficient with your choice of vehicles. And are proficient with improvised weapons that consist of objects and tools typically found on ships.
