If you use a weapon that has the ammunition property to make a melee attack, you treat the weapon as an improvised weapon (see "Improvised Weapons" later in this section). A sling must be loaded to deal any damage when used this way.
Light. A light weapon is small and easy to lift.
This expansion of the combat rules in D&D introduces three new concepts: weapon weight and balance, grip tolerance, and combo actions
The purpose of these enhancements is to introduce oversized weapons to the table in a manner that does not break the balance between martial classes and races. Weapon weight and balance define an extensible system that you can use to make your own oversized weapons, while grip tolerance allows the game's rules to adjust based on your size. For example, while a medium creature must take the Dual Wielder feat to wield two regular longswords, a large creature can do so at 1st level without a feat investment. This is explained by the large creature's higher grip tolerance.
While oversized weapons and grip tolerance unquestionably increases the damage of large races most favorably, this is offset by the addition of the combo action system and the fact that medium and small creatures get more combo points than a large race. In particular, the Swift Body Blow and Swift Strike actions can overcome the damage gap introduced by oversized weapons. Note however, these are not full actions, nor are they intended to be. Thus, when extending this system and designing your own actions, remember that they must never allow anything that is as useful as a real action, unless there is a very good reason to do so.
It should be noted that adding these elements to your game will increase the complexity of your turns, and that these increase the floor of your martials' powers. In this author's opinion, the tradeoff between complexity and interesting mechanics is worth it. Even if you do not also introduce a large race to your table, this system still enhances combat by giving you more things to do than "I attack" each turn. However, as a DM, be sure to scale the challenge of your monsters accordingly.
