Baloths

A Baloth is a fearsome, lizard-like predator that makes it homes in wildlands, especially thick forests and tangled jungles. Growing to be the size of a horse or sometimes larger, these fiercely territorial creatures boast heavy horns, sharp claws and teeth, and spines that run down the length of their back to a sinuous tail. They stalk the wilds, always hungry for prey.

Baloths are aggressive but solitary hunters. They come together only to raise pups, and in other circumstances will not intrude onto another baloth's territory, which a baloth will mark by toppling trees and clawing marks into the landscape. Any creature that enters a baloth's territory is fair game to be eaten, even other baloths, though they rarely target creatures that can fight back. Baloths have very strong self-preservation instincts, and a wounded baloth is significantly more lethal.

Aggressive. As a bonus action, the baloth pup can move up to its speed towards a hostile creature it can see.

Keen Hearing and Smell. The baloth pup has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.

Actions

Multiattack. If the baloth pup has 15 or fewer hit points remaining, it makes two attacks with its claws.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6+3) piercing damage.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (2d4+3) slashing damage.


Baloth

Large beast, unaligned


  • Armor Class 15 (natural armour)
  • Hit Points 60 (8d10 + 16)
  • Speed 40 ft., climb 30 ft.

Aggressive. As a bonus action, the baloth can move up to its speed towards a hostile creature it can see.

Charge. If the baloth moves at least 30 ft. straight towards a target and then hits it with a claws attack on the same turn, the target takes an additional 10 (3d6) slashing damage.

Keen Hearing and Smell. The baloth has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.

Actions

Multiattack. The baloth makes two attacks: one with its claws and one with its bite. If it has 30 or fewer hit points remaining, instead it makes two attacks with its claws and one attack with its bite.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d10 + 4) piercing damage.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage.
