Arachnoids

Many arachnoids appear as not much more than savage animals, there are those, however, who of a higher intelligence. To many, they are mistaken for driders and treated with derision and fear as such.

Arachnoids are often little more than savage animals, keeping to themselves and thinking only about their own needs. They feed by spitting acid onto their prey, reducing a human-sized creature to pudding in seconds, which it then sucks up with a specialized tongue. A closer look at an archnoid’s braids reveals them to be tendrils. Besides having 4 arms, arachnoids also have 4 legs. The second set are nearly vestigial and visible only to those aware of them. Located behind the primary legs near the spinnerets, their only use is to cut and manipulate web. Their feet are prehensile and able to manipulate objects nearly as well as hands. This and their multiple arms allow them to climb with ease.

Many people who don’t know the difference, have confused arachnoids with driders due to the similarities to both humanoids and spiders; even those who do know still often associate them and treat them accordingly. For this reason, arachnoids of higher intelligence and in contact with intelligent races, may develop a dislike of driders. More intelligent, social arachnoids are also more likely to collect treasure. An arachnoid stands more than 7 feet tall and weighs about 400 pounds.
