Way of the Storm

Monks of the Way of the Storm spend their lives meditating on the great forces of hurricanes and storms, and through those find their teachings and path to enlightenment.

On the battlefield they are swift as the wind, unpredictable as the storm, zapping in and out close quarters, and strike with the deadly force of lightning from a clear blue sky.

Uending Torrent

Starting at 3rd level when you choose this tradition, you have become unparalleled in your skill with shurikens and throwing knives. As a result, darts count as monk weapons for you, and whenever you make a ranged attack with a dart you can immediately draw another weapon as part of the attack.

Additionally, unarmed attacks made with Flurry of Blows and Martial Arts can be ranged attacks with darts as well.

Lightning Rider

At 3rd level, you can channel your ki to move around the battlefield as a lightning bolt. You can spend 1 ki point as a bonus action to immediately move up to your unarmored movement speed bonus in any direction without provoking opportunity attacks and ignoring difficult terrain. You can move through the space of other creatures using this feature. Any hostile creatures you move through suffer lightning damage equal to the result of your martial arts die.

Overcharged

At 6th level, you become a conductor for electricity around you. When you deal damage with Lightning Rider or take lightning damage yourself, you become charged with crackling electricity until the end of your next turn. As long as you are charged you gain the following benefits

  • Your attacks deal lightning damage instead of their normal type.
  • Double the speed bonus granted by Unarmored Movement.

Additionally, when you are hit by a melee attack, you can use your reaction and spend 1 ki point to release the charge early, shocking your attacker. The creature must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be restrained until the end of their next turn.

Thunderstrike

At 11th level, you reach supersonic speeds, creating thunderclaps as you break the barrier of sound. When you hit a creature within 60 feet with a ranged attack, you can as a bonus action spend 2 ki points to immediately rush to a space within 5 feet of that creature without provoking attacks of opportunity. Each creature within 5 feet of that space must then make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 1d8 + your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1) thunder damage and is knocked prone. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage, and isn't knocked prone.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Forked Bolts

At 17th level, you have achieved oneness with the storm, and you sling forked lighting bolts as others swing their weapons. Once per turn, when you hit with an attack that deals lightning damage, you may pick up to two creatures within 15 feet of the target and deal the same damage to them.
