New & Revised Fighting Styles

Fighting Styles

The following fighting styles are available to be chosen by a character that gains the Fighting Style class feature. The revised fighting styles can be taken by whichever character could choose the originals. Refer to the sidebar to see which classes and subclasses can choose the new Fighting Styles.

Great Weapon Fighting (Revised)

When you roll a 1 or 2 on a damage die for an attack you make with a melee weapon that you are wielding with two hands, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll, even if the new roll is a 1 or a 2. The weapon must have the two-handed or versatile property for you to gain this benefit. Additionally, if you miss an attack with such a weapon by 5 or less, the target still takes damage from your weapon equal to your Strength modifier.

Protection (Revised)

When a creature you can see hits a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to force the attacker to roll another d20 for their attack. The attacker uses that roll, but only if its lower than their original attack roll. You must be wielding a shield.

Graceful Versatility

While you wield only a melee weapon that lacks the heavy property and do not wield a shield, you can add the lower of your Strength or Dexterity modifier as a bonus to your damage rolls with that weapon.

Greatbow Archer

You may use your Strength, instead of your Dexterity, for attack and damage rolls with a longbow that you wield. When you do so, you can roll 2d6 in place of the normal damage die for a longbow.

Light Shield Fighting

You can treat a shield you wield as a martial melee weapon that deals 1d4 bludgeoning damage, and that has the light weapon property. Additionally, wielding a shield does not count as occupying your hand for any purpose aside from wielding a different weapon or loading a weapon with the ammunition property.

Heavy Shield Fighting

You can treat a shield you wield as a martial melee weapon that deals 1d6 bludgeoning damage. Additionally, when you successfully shove a creature while wielding a shield, that creature takes bludgeoning damage from your shield equal to your Strength modifier.

Inspiring Warlord

Once per turn, when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can choose one creature other than yourself that can see or hear you. That creature has advantage on their next attack roll against the target, if it is made before the start of your next turn.

Tactical Warlord

As a bonus action on your turn, you may choose one creature that you can see. Until the start of your next turn, whenever a creature other than yourself attacks that target with advantage, they may add your Intelligence modifier as a bonus to their damage roll.

Encouraging Warlord

As a bonus action on your turn, you may choose one creature other yourself that can see or hear you. That creature gains temporary hit points equal to your Charisma modifier + your Proficiency bonus. These temporary hit points last until the start of your next turn.

Guerrilla Warlord

As a bonus action on your turn, you may choose a number of creatures other than yourself equal to your Wisdom modifier who can see or hear you. Each of those creatures may use their reaction to either move 5 feet, attempt to escape a grapple, stand from prone, or drop prone. The movement ignores nonmagical difficult terrain and does not provoke opportunity attacks.
