IADnDMN Stream Monsters! (2019/04/12)
As always, tune into ItsADnDMonsterNow's weekly monster-making stream on Twitch every Friday at 10am Pacific! We hang out, talk DnD, and make monsters together as I explain my process and share my tips for making fun and effective monsters that you can use in your own games!
Owlking
Suggested by @whistlehunter, based on the boss of the same name from the video game Death's Gambit.
While similar in appearence, the Owlking is unrelated to the common owlbear. This aberration sports sharp, bony protrusions which act as deadly weapons. Other creatures killed by the owlking are then consumed via the massive, fanged maw in the creature's chest.

Keen Sight and Smell. The owlking has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight or smell.
Speak with Owlbears. The owlking can communicate simple concepts to owlbears and owls when it speaks in Giant Owl. The owlking has advantage on Charisma checks it makes to influence owlbears.
Actions
Multiattack. The owlking makes two attacks: one bone spike attack, and one attack with its claws.
Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 5) slashing damage.
Bone Spike. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) piercing damage.
Chest Maw. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (2d10 + 5) piercing damage. If the target is a Medium or smaller creature, it is grappled (escape DC 15). The owlking can have only one creature grappled this way at a time.
Planar Rift (Recharge 6). The owlking tears a rift in the fabric of the plane, creating a portal to the Abyss that hovers over a 10-foot radius, 20-foot tall cylinder. Each creature in the area is forced to make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw, as motes of chaotic energy are flung from the portal, barraging the area. A creature takes 14 (4d6) force damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. The portal then closes immediately.
Giant Dough Slug
Suggested by /u/Kumqwatwhat in this reddit thread.
A dough slug is the result when an unbaked loaf of bread is left out for too long in one of the world's many enchanted bakeries. If one of these beings is left to grow for too long, such as one left in a disused closet, or an empty basement, it grows into a Giant Dough Slug.

Challenge 10 (5,900 XP)
Baking. If the slug takes 20 or more fire damage in a turn, part of its body begins to bake, forming a crust. Each time this occurs, the slug's AC increases by 2, and its movement speed decreases by 5 feet. If the slug's speed is reduced to 0, it is baked. If the slug is baked, it is killed, and its body becomes freshly baked bread.
Immutable Form. The slug is immune to any spell or effect that would alter its form.
Sticky Dough. If a creature hits the slug with a weapon attack that deals piercing or bludgeoning damage, that creature must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or its weapon gets stuck in the slug. A creature can retrieve a stuck weapon by using its action to make a DC 15 Strength (Athletics) check.
Actions
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, each creature in a 15-foot square within 5 feet of the slug, one target. Hit: 20 (3d10 + 4) bludgeoning damage.
Radula. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (3d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 16).
Swallow. One creature grappled by the slug is swallowed if it is a Medium or smaller creature. A swallowed creature can't breathe, is blinded and restrained, has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the slug, and takes 10 (3d6) bludgeoning damage at the start of each of the slug’s turns.
The slug’s body can hold up to two creatures at a time. If the slug takes 20 damage or more on a single turn from a creature inside it, the slug must succeed on a DC 20 Constitution saving throw at the end of that turn or regurgitate all swallowed creatures, each of which falls prone in a space within 10 feet of the slug. If the slugs dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse using 10 feet of movement, exiting prone.
