Android Character Race
The artificially constructed humanoids known as androids are as much a miracle of technological achievement as they are an example of the sheer will of the multiverse. On Golarion, they’re endemic to Numeria, and for millennia, the native Kellid tribespeople have spoken of “the tattooed children of the stars” who occasionally rise from the technological rubble and ruins of whatever interstellar vessel crashed into that nation’s soil eons ago.
Androids are superficially identical to humans in many ways, and to the uninformed it can be difficult to differentiate the two. In the right light, though, androids’ alien nature is revealed by the metallic sheen in their eyes and the biological, tattoo-like circuitry that riddles their skin. Their bodies are completely artificial, though made of materials that mimic the flexibility, shape, and density of human flesh and bone. Their organs mirror those of humans so well that only by examining the materials and makeup of these systems—which use sheeny oils and polymer alloys rather than blood and marrow—could one guess that their physiology is alien.
Kellid shamans speak of great forges where androids are “born” from metal wombs and are cut from electrified umbilical cords. Even androids can’t refute or verify such stories, since most who emerge from Numerian ruins do so naked and without any memories beyond their initial egress into the wide, unfamiliar world. Their complex design is unlike that of any race known to Golarion’s solar system, leading many to suspect that they (and the alien spaceship on which they crashed onto Golarion) originated from a distant star system or even another galaxy.
What separates androids from golems and other mindless constructs is that androids are living beings and as such possess souls.
Android Traits
Your android character has a number of traits in common with all other androids.
Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 2.
Age. Androids are 'born' fully mature, and their synthetic bodies suffer little from the effects of aging. After a soul has inhabited an android body for roughly 100 years, the android nears the end of their life cycle. After the android's cybernetic mind shuts down and the soul departs, the vacant synthetic body is left until a new soul finds its way into the shell.
Alignment.
Size. Androids are roughly the same size as humans; however, they are denser, weighing notably heavier than a human of the same body type. Your size is medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Emotionless You have disadvantage on Wisdom checks to determine the true intentions or emotional state of a creature.
Synthetic Resilience. Your inorganic composition provides a number of benefits:
- You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned or charmed.
- You are immune to disease.
- You don’t suffer the effects of exhaustion due to lack of rest, and magic can’t put you to sleep.
Nanite Overdrive. An android’s body is infused with nanomachines. As a reaction when you are making an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can grant yourself advantage on the roll. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
Subraces. There are two subraces of androids that have emerged, with different natural talents: the Operatives who excel at precision and reconnaissance, and the Vocalizers who bring about unnaturally captivating performances. Choose one of these subraces.
Operative
Cold, calculating, and endowed with swift reflexes, operative androids exhibit uncanny precision in both physical and mental tasks. Operatives are the majority of androids out and about the world, though they are still an exceptionally rare sight.
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.
Exceptional Senses. You have proficiency in the Perception skill.
Springing Vault. You can use your Dexterity, instead of your Strength, to determine the distances you can high jump or long jump.
Vocalizer
Here, play a fucking vocaloid you dweeb.
Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 1.
Pitch Perfect. You have proficiency in the Performance skill.
Laser Light Show. As a bonus action, you can illuminate yourself and your surroundings with lights of whatever colors and patterns you wish. Until this effect ends, you shed bright light in a 60-foot radius and dim light for an additional 60 feet. This effect lasts until you are incapacitated or you willingly end it on your turn, which requires no action.
