Pact Boons

At 3rd Level, your otherworldly patron bestows a gift upon you for your loyal service. You gain the option of the following feature.

Real Deck needed

This pact requires the use of a full deck of 52 playing cards and 2 jokers, 54 cards total. Keep the deck face down, and the discard pile face up.

Pact of the Deck

You gain the ability to summon a magical deck of cards. This deck acts as an arcane focus for your spellcasting. You can summon and dismiss the deck at will and it automatically dismisses itself if it is 5 ft away from you for a minute.

Whenever you cast a warlock spell you draw a card from your deck. The suite and tier of the card determines the effects of the cards, which are summarized in the tables below.

Card type Effect
Ace The spell automatically hits the target
Number (2-10) Deal additional damage equal to value of card of the type associated with the suite
Jack The target is afflicted with suite condition until the end of their next turn upon failing the saving throw
Queen The target is afflicted with suite condition for 1 minute upon failing the saving throw
King The target automatically fails the first saving throw against the suite condition and is afflicted by it for 1 minute.
Joker Draw two additional cards and use both of their effects
Suite Damage Type Condition Save type
Hearts Fire Charm Intelligence
Diamond Radiant Stunned Constitution
Club Force Silenced Wisdom
Spade Necrotic Slowed (Half-Speed) Strength

When the spell hits a target or the target fails the save at the time of casting, they suffer the effects of the cards drawn. If multiple targets are hit or fail the save of the spell, you chose one target for the card to hit.

Targets affected by a Jack or Queen must make a saving throw of the correlated type of a DC equal to your warlock spell save DC or become impaired with the correlated condition for the amount of time listed in the table. Targets affected by a Queen or King can make saving throws at the end of their turn, ending the effect on themselves upon succeeding. Creatures cannot be affected by a card's status effect if they are already being affected by another card's status effect

The deck is reshuffled whenever all the cards are drawn and discarded or after finishing a long rest.

Eldritch Invocations

At 2nd level, a warlock gains the Eldritch Invocations feature. Here are new options for that feature, in addition to the options in the Player’s Handbook.

If an eldritch invocation has a prerequisite, you must meet it to learn the invocation. You can learn the invocation at the same time that you meet its prerequisite. A level prerequisite refers to your level in this class.

Exploding Cards

Prerequisite: 5th level, Pact of the Deck feature

When a target is affected by one or more of your cards, it takes an additional 1d4 fire damage at the end of its next turn per card.

Flurry of Cards

Prerequisite: eldritch blast cantrip, Pact of the Deck Feature When you cast eldritch blast you can chose to replace the damage of the individual blasts with a card. If you draw an ace with this invocation it knocks the target prone.

Improved Draw

Prerequisite: 7th level, Pact of the Deck feature Whenever you draw from the deck you may draw 2 cards to throw instead of just 1.

Lucky Draw

Prerequisite: Pact of the Deck feature

After you draw cards from your deck, you may draw an additional card to replace any of those you just drew. You may chose to draw one card and then another or both at once. All the cards are discarded after they are used as usual.

Superior Draw

Prerequisite: 14th level, Pact of the Deck feature Whenever you draw from the deck you may draw 3 cards to throw.

Trick up the Sleeve

Prerequisite: 5th level, Pact of the Deck feature

After shuffling your deck you may draw 1d4 cards and set them aside. You can chose to use these as a part of your draw or use them to replace cards after being drawn. Any cards used or replaced are placed in the discard pile immediately after.

Reflavoring the suite

You can imagine that the cards use different suites or tiers in game to better fit the setting. For example, you could make the suites Fiends, Celestials, Fey, and Undead, for hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades respectively.
