Shadow Tiefling

We will not suffer the scrutiny brought on us by our ancestors, nor will we allow those who come after to suffer like we have. There is a place that we can make our home, where we can live free. We will go to the Shadowfell.

Generations after the first Infernal pacts were struck, there were those among the Tieflings who were less than happy with their fate. This small group felt like they were no longer welcome in the material plane, so they sought refuge in a place they hoped would be more accepting. Thus they found themselves kneeling before the Raven Queen of the Shadowfell, pledging their allegiance to her in exchange for a plot of land.

Shadow of the Infernal Bloodline

Generations after their exodus, the Tieflings of the Shadowfell eventually grew different from their cousins on the material plane. Whereas your traditional Tiefling is the visage of infernal power, the Tieflings of the shadowfell seem to represent darkness and fear.

A Shadow Tiefling's overall build is slim and nimble. Their horns generally growing like a goat or antelopes, thin and upwards and their tails long and thin usually with a sharp and hard spade in various shapes at the end.

Skintones mostly vary from shades of grey and pale blue, but pale shades of red, yellow or brown are not unheard of. Haircolour is most commonly white, grey and black.

Due to their dark environment, their eyes have changed a bit from their ancestors, now featuring a black sclera, while the iris varies from white, silvery grey or cold blue and with slitted pupils.

Beastly canines remain, along with strong clawlike black nails.

Another notable change that soon became apparent is their clearly prolonged lifespan. This is likely a side effect from exposure to the energies of the Shadowfell.

Home in the Shadows

Over the years, the Tieflings have built their own society, grown in numbers and slowly developed their own culture. Their humble village has grown to an impressive town-keep, with facilities and structures similar to what you would find in a regular city on the material plane. Those who live to an old age are elevated to a seat of council that represents their leadership.

One faction has chosen to devote themselves to the Raven Queen, honoring their original pact with her. This group consists mostly of monks, clerics, paladins and warlocks and they keep mostly to them selves in a secluded part of their keep.

Shadow Tiefling names

Despite their desire to distance themselves from their ancestors, most Shadow Tieflings still follow their infernal naming conventions. This is however more of a practical matter rather than respecting their heritage.
