Monastic Tradition: Way of the Primal Force

A monk of the Way of the Primal Force draws inspiration from the natural world and the movements of wild animals to practice an unconventional fighting style. By moving on all fours along the ground, they are able to confound most other combatants and prey upon them like a beast.

Primal Stance

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can start moving and striking like an animal. While prone, conscious and unsurprised, you gain the following benefits:

  • You do not have disadvantage on attacks nor do creatures gain advantage attacking you due to you being prone.
  • You can move your full movement while crawling.
  • If you move at least 20 ft straight toward a target right before hitting it with an unarmed strike or monk weapon attack, the target must succeed a Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Wild Mobility

At 6th level, you begin to move move more easily on all fours than you do on two. While prone, conscious and unsurprised, you gain the following additional benefits:

  • You gain a climb speed and a swim speed equal to your current walking speed
  • Moving through difficult terrain costs you no extra movement

Ki-Infused Bites

At 11th level, you begin to instinctually incorporate powerful, ki-infused bites into your martial arts. Biting now counts as a typical unarmed strike. In addition, when you hit a prone creature with an unarmed strike that is a bite, you can spend 2 ki points to attempt incapacitating the target. The target must succeed a Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for 1 minute. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make another Constitution saving throw. On a success the paralysis ends.

Apex Predator

At 17th level, you become the ideal mix of martial prowess and primal ferocity. While prone you gain a +5 bonus to Strength or Dexterity checks and Strength or Dexterity saving throws.
