# Wizard: Research Scholar A Research Scholar strives to learn as much as they can about magic and the world. They are the most academic of all Wizard schools, prone to experimentation and constantly applying the knowledge they have acquired to their magic. Research Scholars are often respected for their breadth of knowledge and investigative mind, but not always liked as many become eccentric or obsessive in their search for answers. Divine casters, for example, might take offense at a Research Scholar's disrespectful prodding into their faith for the sake of understanding their sacred gifts. Nonetheless, if there's a magical mystery afoot, a Research Scholar either already knows about it, or is in the middle of figuring it out. ## Master Scholar Starting at 2nd level, you become a compendium of knowledge on a vast array of topics. You are proficient in two additional skills from the Wizard skill list. If you are not yet proficient in Arcana, it must be one of your choices. | Wizard Level | Scholar Points | |--------------|----------------| | 2 | 2 | | 6 | 3 | | 10 | 4 | | 14 | 5 | In addition, you have a number of Scholar Points as shown in the table above. You can spend 1 Scholar Point to re-roll an Intelligence saving throw or Intelligence check that you fail. If you do so, you must use the new roll. When you finish a long rest, you regain your spent Scholar Points. ## Rigorous Study Starting at 2nd level, your arcane studies are starting to bear fruit. You learn one Wizard cantrip of your choice. This cantrip does not count against your number of known cantrips. You may also add one Wizard spell of your choice to your spell book. This bonus spell must be a level for which you have spell slots, as shown on the Wizard table. Each time you gain a level in the Wizard class thereafter you may add another bonus spell to your spell book, following the same restrictions. \columnbreak ## Intellectual Savant At 6th level, you are able to recognize the most subtle patterns in the information you analyze. You may add your proficiency bonus to the number of spells you can prepare. In addition, your proficiency bonus is doubled for Intelligence checks you are proficient in. Skills already benefiting from a similar feature, such as Expertise, do not receive this bonus. ## Arcane Formula At 10th level, as a result of your experimentations, you master the formula which forms the spells you know. When casting a spell you prepared from your spell book, you can make one of the following changes to it: * When you cast a spell that deals acid, cold, fire, lightning, poison, or thunder damage, you can spend 1 Scholar Point to substitute one damage type to another of your choice in that list. * When you cast an area of effect spell that has a shape of a sphere, cube, or cone, you can spend 2 Scholar Points to substitute the shape with another (retaining the length or diameter) of your choice in that list. * When you cast a spell that requires a saving throw, you can spend 3 Scholar Points to substitute the saving throw to another of your choice. In addition, you may regain your spent Scholar Points when you use the Arcane Recovery feature. ## Prodigious Memory At 14th level, your ability to recall spells is unparalleled. As a bonus action, you can replace one spell you prepared with another spell from your spell book. You can't use this feature again until you finish a short or long rest. In addition, if you casted a Wizard spell in the last 24 hours that is not in your spell book (e.g. from a scroll or magic item), you may attempt to scribe it into your spell book using the usual “Adding New Spell” rules. You may also attempt to add spells that were modified by the Arcane Formula feature, such that it costs 1 less Scholar Point to cast when prepared.
