Circle of Winter

The Circle of Winter draws power from the season itself. These druids embody the conditions of snow, harsh and unforgiving, but also cleansing and calming. They tend to be nomadic travelers spreading winter snow wherever they go. Their snowstorms can ravish an area, but will always leave it with less corruption and ready for new life.

Winter's Embrace

By the time you join this circle at 2nd level, you have become accustomed to winter's harsh climates. You are naturally adapted to cold climates as described in chapter 5 of the Dungeon Master's Guide.

In addition, once per turn, when you deal cold damage to a creature, you can reduce that creature's speed by 10 feet until the end of its next turn.

Snow Storm

Also at 2nd level, you have learned to call upon winter's weather no matter the season. As an action, you can expend a use of your Wild Shape feature to create a localized snow storm on yourself, and gain temporary hit points equal to twice your druid level. Magical snow begins to flurry around you and moves with you. While the snow storm remains, you gain the following benefits:

  • You have resistance to cold damage.
  • When a creature you can see makes an attack against you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack, as you intensify the storm.
  • When you reduce a creature's speed with your Winter's Embrace feature, it takes additional cold damage equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of one damage).

The snow storm lasts for 10 minutes, or until you use this ability again. You can choose to end it early at any time (no action required).

Circle Spells

Your winter connection allows you to cast certain spells. At 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th level you gain access to circle spells. Once you gain a circle spell, it is always prepared, it doesn't count against the number of spells you can prepare, and it is considered a druid spell for you.

Druid Level Circle Spells
3rd hold person, sniloc's snowball storm
5th remove cure, sleet storm
7th aura of purity, elemental bane
9th cone of cold, hold monster

Cleansing Ice

Starting at 6th level, even your touch can cleanse. As an action, you can touch a creature and end one effect that is causing it to be frightened, paralyze, poisoned, or stunned.

In addition, you ignore difficult terrain caused by snow or icy conditions.

Permafrost

Beginning at 10th level, when you use your Snow Storm feature, you can expend two uses of your Wild Shape feature to harshen the storm. If you do, while the snow storm remains, the additional cold damage you deal when you reduce a creature's speed is doubled, and when you use your reaction to impose disadvantage on an attack against you, all attacks that creature makes against you this turn have disadvantage.

Ice Walker

By 14th level, you completely embody winter. You can cast investiture of ice once without expending a spell slot. You regain the ability to do so again when you finish a long rest.
