Umbra's Tome
Warlock Otherworldly Patron
The Shinigami
Shinigami are known as gods or spirits of death. They drive humanoids to death and can decide when a person dies. A Shinigami might make a deal with a person for their own gain, that being to make the person kill for the Shinigami.
Shinigami Expanded Spell List
| Spell Level | Spell |
|---|---|
| 1 | Detect Good & Evil, False Life |
| 2 | Pass Without Trace, See Invisibility |
| 3 | Animate Dead, Speak with Dead |
| 4 | Locate Creature, Phantasmal Killer |
| 5 | Dispel Evil & Good, Hallow |
Eyes of Death
Starting at level 1, the Shinigami grants you the power of their eyes. You have Darkvision of 120 feet.
Additionally, you can choose to see the name and day of death of a person whose face you can see a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier. You also know the location of any undead within 60 feet when you use this feature. You regain all expended uses on a long rest.
Necropotence
Beginning at 6th level, whenever a creature within 5 feet of you dies, you regain Hit Points equal to your Warlock level and regain one Warlock spell slot.
You may only regain a spell slot with this feature once. When you do, you must finish a long rest to do so again.
Blood of the Death Gods
Upon reaching level 10, your blood is filled with Shinigami power. You gain immunity to necrotic damage, and resistance to radiant, cold, and psychic damage.
Bringer of Demise
When you reach 14th level, you can determine the death of a person, and their actions before death. You can cast the finger of death spell without expending a spell slot and without any components once per long rest. If the target would die from the damage, you choose how that person dies, such as a heart attack. The cause of death must be possible and reasonable.
In addition, if the target fails the saving throw, you can choose for the target to take the damage 30 minutes after casting this spell. If you do, you control their actions for those 30 minutes. The target will not know you controlled them or cast this spell on them.
Pact Boons
In addition to the Pact Boons found in the PHB at level 3, this option is also available.
Pact of the Poppet
Your patron gives you a poppet with an appearance imitating your own. It weighs 1 lb. You may use a bonus action to choose a humanoid you can see. The poppet takes on the appearance of that creature, and you know their location as long as they’re within 200 feet of you.
You may also use your action to force the creature your poppet is imitating to make a Wisdom saving throw against your Warlock spell save DC. If the creature fails, it takes 1d6 psychic damage and is stunned for 1 round, in addition to becoming frightened of you for 1 minute.
The creature may use a bonus action on their subsequent turns to reroll the Wisdom saving throw. If they succeed, they get that bonus action back in addition that creature no longer being frightened of you.
If your Poppet becomes lost or destroyed, you can receive a new one after performing an hour-long verbal ritual.
This Pact Boon gives you the ability to choose Eldritch Invocations that require a Warlock feature that curses. (See Xanathar’s Guide to Everything)
