Gold Scent. The aurum eater can pinpoint, by scent, the location of gold within 60 feet of it.

Golden Sheath. Any nonmagical weapon that hits the aurum eater is coated in heavy gold, causing it to become unwieldy. After dealing damage, the weapon takes a cumulative −1 penalty to attack rolls. If its penalty drops to −5, the weapon is considered an improvised bludgeoning weapon until repaired. Nonmagical ammunition that hits the aurum eater is useless after dealing damage.

Magic Resistance. The aurum eater has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Magic Weapons. The aurum eater's weapon attacks are magical.

Actions

Multiattack. The aurum eater makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its tentacle.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5ft. one target. Hit 14 (2d10 + 3) piercing damage plus 5 (2d4) fire damage.

Tentacle. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) plus 5 (2d4) fire damage.

Molten Gold (Recharge 6). The Aurum Eater belches a glob of concentrated molten gold from its mouth, filling a 10-foot cube centered on a point it can see within 30 feet of it. Each creature in the area must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or be pushed 10 feet away from the center of the blast. If a creature fails its saving throw fails by 5 or more, it becomes petrified until cured. After the blast, the area becomes difficult terrain for 1 minute. During this time, any creature that enters the area for the first time on its turn or starts its turn there takes 10 (4d4) fire damage and is ignited by its raw heat. An ignited creature takes 5 (2d4) fire damage at the start of each of its turns until it uses its action to extinguish itself.

Aurum Eater

Smoking monstrosities with an expensive palate, Aurum Eaters eat, sleep, and breathe gold. This obsession draws them to make their homes nearby rich deposits of gold, making them a good indication of where to find the precious metal, if not a dangerous one. Anyone from whom Aurum Eaters feel pose a threat to their stores, or from whom gold can be harvested, will find out just how much their life is truly worth.

Decorated Dens. The age of an Aurum Eater can often be determined by the layers of gilding on the adventurers surrounding their dens, as they add one new layer every year to keep their trophies pristine.

Golden Gluttons. Always hungry for more gold but not always motivated enough to leave their dens, Aurum Eaters will commonly spare monsters and adventurers if they promise to deliver them gold
