Circle of the Harvest

By @homebrewlesbian

A kenku removes a small sickle from their cloak, slicing the vital arteries of an enraged goblin. A human wields a massive scythe, drawing on the necrotic energy stored in their scythe to reap more lives.

Circle of the Harvest Druids are masters of repurposing life energy and recognize the importance in balance between life and death.

Bonus Proficiencies

At 2nd level, when you pursue this druidic circle, you become proficient with the tools of a reaper, a martial weapon with the following traits:

Name Cost Damage Weight Properties
Scythe 15 gp 1d8 slashing 4 lb. Two-handed

Life's Harvest

At 2nd level you gain the ability to harvest energy from freshly dead creatures, repurposing it for your own usage. When you reduce an opponent to 0 hit points, you gain 1 Harvest Point. You may have a maximum amount of Harvest Points equal to your Druid level.

Harvest Points do not replenish after a long rest and only are reduced to zero when all points are expended.

You can expend Harvest Points in the following ways:

  • You can use a reaction to apply a bonus to saving throws equal to every 2 Harvest Points spent. You may spend a maximum of 6 harvest points
  • You can expend Harvest Points to heal an ally within 60 ft. Each Harvest Point heals 2 Hit Points.
  • When making an attack with a scythe or sickle, you may deal additional necrotic damage equal to Harvest Points expended.

Seeking Scythe

At 6th level, you become greatly attuned to the harvest of life. Over the course of a long rest, you can draw out the energy of the enviorment around you, granting you Harvest Points equal to 1/4 of your druid level, rounded down.

Level Harvest Points Regained
1 - 7 1 point regained
8 - 11 2 points regained
12 - 15 3 points regained
16 - 19 4 points regained
20 5 points regained

Additionally, when you make the Attack action, you can choose to expend 2 Harvest Points to make a second attack.

Grim Body

At 10th level, you are resilient against the forces of death and horror. You gain resistance to necrotic damage, your Hit Point total cannot be reduced, and you are immune to being Frightened.

Hour of Reaping

At 14th level, you can expend a wildshape and transform into the personification of reaping. You gain the following benefits:

  • You exert an 20 ft. aura of fear. When a creature of your choosing enters the aura for the first time or starts their turn there, they must make a Wisdom saving throw or become Frightened of you. They may make this save at the end of each of their turns.
  • As a bonus action, you make force creatures within your fear aura to make a Constitution saving throw as you steal their vitality. On a failed save, you gain hit points equal to half their CR.
  • While your aura is active, you gain 2 Harvest Points for every creature you kill and gain 1 Harvest Point for each creature slain within your aura.

This transformation lasts for 1 minute.

Author's Notes

Happy Halloween! I wanted to make another dark themed druid, as well as provide a little bit of melee flair! This subclass is geared towards the usage of the scythe, a sickle and shield, or even dual-wielding sickles! Feel free to get creative with it, however these will be the weapons that benefit you.
