College of Fables

Some tell stories of wandering bards who share tales so realistic, they feel like they are more than just a story. Bringing the characters in the fables they tell, inspiring wonder and altruism in all those who hear from their collection of fables.

Bards from the college of fables however, know this is more than just a story. Having mastered the art of storytelling, bards from the college can turn the very ink of their fables into the characters they tell the musings of by using a touch of fey magic. With animal-like companions, they are never alone to share their stories, adding a special flair other storytellers wish they could provide by bringing the animals in the stories to life before the audience.

Bonus Proficiencies

When you join the College of Fables at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in Insight and Nature. If you are already proficient in Insight or in Nature, choose another skill proficiency for each proficiency you already have.

Fabled Companion

Also at 3rd level, you learn the find familiar spell and can cast it without its material components. It counts as a bard spell for you, but doesn't count against your number of spells known.

When you cast the spell, you can choose one of the normal forms for your familiar. However, this form is adjusted as follows:

• You can use your bonus action to allow your familiar to make an attack.

• Attacks made by your familiar count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

• While within 10 feet of you, your familiar grants advantage on Charisma (performance) checks for storytelling and rolls made for your Bardic Inspiration and Song of Rest feature adds your proficiency bonus to the result.

Wild's Gift

Starting a 6th level, you have learned how to alter your familiar into different shapes by reciting passages from various fables. As an action you can change your familiar into a beast of challenge rating 2 or lower. However, the additional changes from Fabled Companion remain and loses its Multiattack action, if it has one.

The transformation lasts for 1 minute, or until your familiar drops to 0 hit points or dies. Your familiar assumes the Hit Points of its new form. When it reverts to its normal form, it returns to the number of Hit Points it had before it transformed. If it reverts as a result of dropping to 0 Hit Points, any excess damage carries over to its normal form.

Once you use this feature twice you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

The challenge rating of beasts you can change your familiar into changes when you reach certain levels in this class.

Happily Ever After

Starting at 14th level, your familiar can change your fate and save you from the grasp of death. If you would die due to failing death saving throws and have a familiar summoned, you don't die and instead your familiar dies instantly and you gain 1 hit point and one level of exhaustion.

Once you use the feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
