Martial Archetype

Dragon Knight

Imbued with draconic power, fighters of this archetype have the courage and ferocity all warriors strive for. Sometimes called dragoons, dragon knights can obtain their powers in many ways, perhaps as a boon from an ancient dragon, or a blessing from Bahamut himself.

Dragon Origin

3rd-level archetype feature

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you also choose one of the dragon colors listed in the Dragonborn's Draconic Ancestry feature as the origin of your draconic powers. You gain the Breath Weapon feature of that dragon color, as well as resistance to its damage type.

The save DC for your Breath Weapon, as well as the following features of this archetype, is 8 + your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus.

Additionally, you learn Draconic and gain proficiency one of the following skills of your choice: Deception, Intimidation, or Persuasion. You can double your proficiency bonus on ability checks with this skill.

Dragonborn Dragon Knights

If you are dragonborn, the color of your Dragon Origin is the same as that of your Draconic Ancestry, and you gain the following benefits.

  • Your base walking speed is increased to 40 feet.

  • You gain darkvision with a range of 120 feet.

  • You can use your Breath Weapon as a bonus action, using the save DC of your Dragon Origin.

Dragon Fire

3rd-level archetype feature

When a target fails its saving throw against your Breath Weapon, your melee attacks until the end of your next turn that hit that target deal 1d6 additional damage of your dragon color's damage type.

You also regain a use of your Breath Weapon after you use Action Surge.

Dragon Form

7th-level archetype feature

As an action, you can transform into a dragon. You choose whether your equipment falls to the ground in your space or merges into your dragon form. While merged, your equipment still have effect, but you can't interact with them. This transformation lasts for 1 minute or until you fall unconscious, drop to 0 hit points, or die. You can end this earlier with an action.

As a dragon, you are effected in the following ways.

  • Your size is large.
  • You are immune to the damage type associated with your dragon color.
  • You can't cast spells or concentrate on them.
  • Using your claws as natural weapons, you can make Claw attacks as if using a melee weapon you've merged into your dragon form, dealing slashing instead of bludgeoning or piercing damage.
  • You can use your bonus action to make a Bite attack as an unarmed strike. It has a reach of 10 feet and deals 1d4 piercing damage on hit.

You can transform in this way twice. You regain all expended uses after you complete a long rest.

Dragon Fury

10th-level archetype feature

While you are a dragon, you can use your action to unleash a frightening roar. Each hostile creature within 120 feet of you that hear you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If the target successfully saves or this effect ends for it, it can't be frightened in this way again for the next 24 hours.

You can also do this as part of the action you use to transform into your Dragon Form.

Dragon Might

15th-level archetype feature

Your Dragon Form improves. While in Dragon Form, you gain the following benefits.

  • You have darkvision with a range of 120 feet and blindsight with a range of 60 feet.
  • Your size is huge.
  • You have a walking speed of 40 feet and a flying speed of 80 feet.
  • The length of your Breath Weapon is doubled.
  • When a creature provokes an opportunity attack from you, you can instead make a Wing attack. Each creature within 10 feet of you must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d6 bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. As part of the reaction, you can fly up to half your flying speed.

Depending on your dragon color, your dragon form also gains one of the following benefits.

Dragon Color Benefit
Black, Bronze, Gold, Green You have a swim speed of 40 feet and can breathe air and water.
Copper, Red, Silver You have a climb speed of 40 feet.
Blue, Brass, White You have a burrow speed of 30 feet.

Dragon Soul

18th-level archetype feature

You can transform into your Dragon form at-will, and it can last indefinitely.
