|Skill|Complication|Opportunity| |:-|:-|:-| |**Acrobatics**|Your quarry knocks over a barrel behind him, which the you must successfully dodge| While your quarry weaves their way through a crowded section of town, you attempt to nimbly parkor around it.| |**Animal Handling**| A horse ambles into your path... can you yell "ya" quick enough and loud enough to convince it to move out of your way? |You successfully perform a duck call, causing a nearby flock of ducks to curiously amble into your quarry's path, slowing him down| |**Arcana**| The chase approaches what you think is some kind of magic ward or trap. Make an arcana check to determine whether you can decipher how to avoid it.| A wooden sign which reads "Now Entering The 5th Ward" has some magical runes inscribed below it. You squint your eyes and attempt to make sense of the runes. (On a success: you learn that you are approaching a magical ward, and you now know how to avoid it.) | |**Athletics**| A large stained-glass window blocks your path. You attempt to smash through the barrier. | You gather your strength, put your head down, and and attempt to put on a burst of speed | |**Deception**|A mounted guard begins to block your path demanding that you "stop harassing this poor man!", you must convince him you mean no harm|You shout "He stole my sweet roll!" to a group of guards in your quarry's path, causing them to try to stop him| |**History**|You encounter a group of zealots avidly preaching their religion at you. Using your knowledge of these city streets, you must recall a way to bypass them.|You correctly remember a shortcut from this district to the next, closing the distance between you and your quarry.| |**Insight**|You have entered a bad part of town, known for its pickpockets. Several questionable figures loom in your path: you must decide which ones to avoid.|Shortcut: You realize that ducking through the next alley would allow you to cut the upcoming corner.| |**Intimidation**| Your quarry drops several coppers on the ground, causing citizens to crowd the street to retrieve them. You must yell at them to get out of your way.| You yell at your quarry, "Stop running now, and I will spare your life you coward!" (On a success: the quarry slows slightly as they consider your threat... but not for long.)| |**Investigation**| Your quarry drops something shiny on the ground while they run. As you approach the object, make an investigation check to quickly determine whether it is important, or just a diversion. | Ever vigilant, as you pass by a shipyard, you notice a system of ropes and pulleys culminating in a suspended beam just ahead of your quarry. Can you quickly figure out which rope to cut to release the beam into their path?| |**Medicine**| You start to cramp up! Make a retroactive medicine check to see if you actually remembered to stretch first... |Recalling a morsel of advice regarding long distance running, you remember to regulate your breathing, increasing your stamina ever so slightly.| |**Nature**| You see a normal puddle in the road ahead... or is it? You must successfully detect, via the shape of the ripples in the water, that it's actually quite deep and must be avoided.| As you approach a cluster of decorative berry bushes, make a nature check. On success: you can recall that these berries are both delicious and stamina-enhancing when eaten, and you grab a handful as you pass by. | |**Perception**|You must notice a deep divot in the muddy road ahead of you to narrowly avoid stepping in it, slowing you down. | Your quarry darts into a very narrow alley that slows his progress. Roll to see if you realize their error and opt to take the next alley to avoid the same setback. | |**Performance**| A group of gleeful children join the chase, laughing and swatting at your legs with sticks. You attempt to scare them off with a monsterous snarl. |You successfully perform a duck call, causing a nearby flock of ducks to curiously amble into your quarry's path, slowing him down| |**Persuasion**| A poor beggar woman stumbles into your path, hands cupped before you. Convince her to step aside or get slowed down.| You shout to your quarry, "Please! Think about what you're doing! Do you really wish to live your life running away from your problems? You're stronger than that!" | |**Religion**|Remember that one time you cursed Pelor? Well he does. Roll to see if Pelor has forgiven that offense. On a failed check, a blinding glare of sunlight reflects off of a Pelor shrine.|You see a group of zealots avidly preaching their religion ahead of your quarry. Make a religion check to passionately convince them that your quarry is in extreme need of their righteous teachings immediately to slow him down.| |**Sleight of Hand**|Your quarry heaves a small flask of oil into the air. You attempt to catch it before it hits the ground and bursts, creating an oil slick.| Just one sip of water would revitalize you and give you the strength for a burst of speed. You see cup of water sitting on a patio table ahead of you. You attempt to grab it while running full speed. | |**Stealth**|Your quarry shouts to a city guard, "They're trying to kill me!". The guard leaps to action, asking "who?!". You attempt to quickly bypass the alert guard, undetected.|As the quarry looks over his shoulder, you attempt to momentarily blend in with a crowd of people to make him wonder if he's lost you.| |**Survival**|As you exit the city, you notice a hunting trap set in the path ahead of you. Roll to determine whether you are familiar with the trap and how to avoid it. | As you exit the city, you attempt to herd your quarry toward what you believe is a set hunting trap |
