Monk Tradition: Way of The Force
Apprentice Training
At 3rd level you gain proficiency with longswords, and they count as monk weapons for you. You also gain the Mage Hand cantrip, and may cast it without verbal components. The hand created by your version of the spell is invisible.
The Force Awakens
Starting at 3rd level you gain the ability to cast certain spells, ignoring material and verbal components. At the levels below, choose two of the options to gain as known spells. To cast a Way of The Force spell, spend ki points equal to the level of the spell. You may cast at a higher level by spending additional ki points, but not beyond the highest level spell you know.
| Monk Level | Spell Options |
|---|---|
| 3 | Absorb Elements, Bane, Catapult |
| 5 | Detect Thoughts, Levitate, Suggestion |
| 9 | Lightning Bolt, Sending, Slow |
| 13 | Charm Monster, Locate Creature, Otilike's Resilient Sphere |
| 17 | Bigby's Hand, Hold Monster, Telekinesis |
Wisdom is your spellcasting attribute for Way of The Force spells. When you gain a level in this class you may replace one known spell with another from the same level.
Force Combatant
At 6th level, monk weapons you wield count as Magical for the purposes of overcoming resistance to nonmagical damage. You also gain one of the following ki abilities. You gain the other at 11th level.
Force Grasp - As a Bonus Action you may spend 1 ki point to pick a creature you can see within 30 feet and push or pull them up to 15 feet. This movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity. If the creature is unwilling then it can negate the effect with a successful Strength saving throw.
Force Choke - As an Action, you may spend 1 ki point to extend your hand and force a creature you can see within 30 feet to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failure they take force damage equal to 3d10 plus your level and they are stunned until the start of your next turn. On a success they take half as much damage and aren't stunned.
Blade of Light
Starting at 11th level, as a Bonus Action, you may ignite a monk weapon with your radiant spirit. For one minute it glows brilliantly, shedding dim light in a 15 foot radius, and dealing additional radiant damage equal to your martial arts die on each hit. Once you use this feature, you cannot do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
Force Master
Starting at 17th level, you may cast any known 1st or 2nd level Way of The Force spell as a Bonus Action.
Additionally, choose either Chain Lightning or Mass Suggestion. You can cast this spell once without ki points or verbal or material components. You cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
Practitioners of the Way of The Force see their internal ki as part of a universal Force that binds all living things. Some believe this force is a tool to be used, while others believe The Force is untameable. Some use their knowledge to achieve selfish and violent goals, while others use it to foster peace and protect the innocent. In all cases, practicioners of the Way of The Force temper their mind and body alike to better attune their personal ki to the universal Force.
