Throwing an Opponent in DnD 5e
Precautions to throw an Opponent
The first condition to throw an opponent, is that he is grappled. Follow the official rules for grappling.
The second condition for throwing is that you can only throw an opponent that weighs max. half your Drag, Push, Lift capcity.
The attack roll will be made as if you throw an improvised weapon.
Calculation of Range and Damage
Throwing Range
The typical throwing range for living opponents is 10ft./30ft. You can however throw 5ft./10ft. further for every 1/4th of your Drag, Push, Lift capcity the opponent is lighter.
Damage
The damage is calculated as if the opponent is falling to the ground. That means 1d6 for every 10ft. You may add your STR modifier to the damage roll. Both the thrown and the hit opponent take the damage.
Conditions and reactions
Conditions
The thrown opponent will be knocked prone upon landing even if the target is not hit. It can decide to use its
reaction to make a Dex Saving Throw which equals to 10 + your proficiency bonus + your STR modifier to halve the damage it will take.
The target you want to hit can take the Dex Saving Throw without using its reaction to also halve the damage. If the target fails the Dex Saving Throw it is also knocked prone.
