Oogoo

Stochastic Form

Oogoos are unique in that their bodies are composed of a viscous, jelly-like fluid that allows them to reshape their bodies at will. Though they tend to take on a humanoid form around other races, their native appearances are much more variable and amorphous. When Oogoos move, they take the form of a thin, running stream that allows them to seep through tight cracks and crevices. As such, they can make their homes in places inaccessible to most other societies, such as worm-like tunnels underground and narrow cavities in trees. Oogoos also come in a wide variety of colors, ranging from bright yellows to deep mauves.

Collectivist Society

Oogoos will prioritize the good of their people above all else. Since no individual acts out of self-interest, Oogoo civilizations have no need for a government nor an economy.
When two Oogoos experience a deep enough bond, they undergo a ritual involving the fusion of their bodies into one individual, whereupon their colors, memories, and skills blend. The Oogoos also undergo the converse process, where an internal conflict within an individual results in its fission into two distinct Oogoos. However, despite their distinct lack of individualism, Oogoos are beings which feel very deeply; in fact, they are said to experience a much wider range of emotions than any other people.

Oogoo Names

Whenever Oogoos join or divide, they take on new names. Just as every character in their language corresponds to a specific emotion, so does every name. However, since Oogoos experience more emotions than the other races, sensory words are used as placeholders for these indescribable emotions. Thus, the Common version of a Oogoo name consists of two of either of these kinds of words.

Oogoo Names: Creamblack, Hotblue, Humjovial, Madrough, Mintsharp, Softpop, Wetzap, Whitespice

Oogoo Traits

Your Oogoo race character shares the following traits with other members of your race.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1, and your Charisma score increases by 1.

Age. Oogoos will reach maturity around the age of 10, but can live to over 150. However, when an Oogoo divides, the age of each of the progeny is reduced. Conversely, when two individuals fuse, their ages are added.

Alignment. Due to the lack of any firm societal structure, Oogoos tend towards chaotic alignments. Despite this, however, their collective societies are very efficient and sustainable.

Size. Oogoos vary vastly in size depending on how many times they have fused and divided. Oogoos generally stop being able to divide when they are around 2 feet tall in their humanoid form and weigh 20 pounds, and stop being able to fuse when they are around 13 feet tall and weigh 145 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Fluid Form. You can squeeze through a space that is large enough for a creature two sizes smaller than you to fit through. Additionally, squeezing costs you no extra movement.

Hybrid Nature. You have two creature types: humanoid and ooze. You can be affected by a game effect if it works on either of your creature types.

Somatic Fission. As an action you split your gelatinous body in twain, reducing your size by one size category and creating a duplicate of yourself in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of you. When you do so, you designate any equipment that remains with yourself or leaves with your duplicate. Additionally, each duplicate can equip items separately. Your duplicate is an extension of your body; it counts as the same creature as you, allowing you to effectively be in two places at once.

You perceive from both yourself and your duplicate at once. During your turn, both yourself and your duplicate can move up to your speed. If one of your halves is grappled, the other can move freely. When you make an attack or cast a spell, you choose which half performs the action. If both of your halves are subjected to an area effect, such as a Dragon's Breath, you are only subjected to its effects once.

Your duplicate lasts for 10 minutes, whereupon it loses its fidelity and dissolves into vapor. Alternatively, you can use an action to reform into a single body if both of your halves are within 5 feet of each other. When you lose your duplicate, you return to your normal size.

You can use this trait once, and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Splosh. Splosh is the native Oogoo language which consists largely of gurgles and burps. To write, Oogoos will morph their bodies into the characters they wish to enscribe and press it against a surface.

Subrace. You may choose either the Elastid, Viscid, or Myriad subrace. You gain the subrace’s racial traits.

Elastid

Elastids are composed of a substance that is abnormally elastic, and are therefore the most flexible members of the race. Some Elastids have been known to trace their steps by stretching their bodies for miles and following their self-made tethers home.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.

Elastic Body. When you are hit by a ranged weapon attack, you can use your reaction to roll a d6. On a roll of 4 or higher, the projectile bounces off you and the attack instead misses you.

Viscid

Viscids are composed of a thicker substance that is more difficult to penetrate. As a result, they can construct armor using their own bodies.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1.

Gel Matrix. If you aren’t wearing armor, you can use half of your movement to form a gelatinous veil around an adjacent willing creature of your size or smaller using your body. That creature gains a bonus to their AC equal to your strength modifier and gains all of your damage resistances for the duration. During this time, your speed becomes 0, but you move with your target at half of their speed. You can use half of your movement to end this effect, after which you appear in an unoccupied space of your choice adjacent to the target.

Myriad

Myriads are composed of the most fluid substance of the subraces, causing bits of their bodies to schloff off as they move. As such, Myriads are more likely to undergo fission at any given time, and can often give rise to more than two progeny.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.

Multiplicity. When you use your Somatic Fission, you divide into thirds rather than halves.

Expanded Racial Feats

Below are a list of feats exclusive to the Oogoo race. If your DM is using the optional feats rule, you may forgo taking an Ability Score Improvement granted by your class for a racial feat of your choice. You must meet the racial prerequisite when choosing a feat. See page 73 of Xanathar's Guide to Everything for more information on racial feats.
