Sorcerous Origin: Sword Saint

Your innate magic comes from the soul that you have inherited. That of a Sword Saint. A Sword Saint spends their life focusing their training and meditation into a rapturous perfection of the use of a single weapon, which is usually but not always a sword, channeling their arcane might through it in a dizzying and deadly dance beyond the abilities of even the greatest of mundane warriors. Sword Saints are both masters of dueling and excellent battlefield fighters.

Sword Saint Features

Sorcerer Level Feature
1st Spellstrike
1st Arcane Defense
6th Bonus Attack
6th Perfect Strike
14th Perfect Senses
18th One with the Weapon

Favored Weapon

You gain proficiency with simple weapons and one martial melee weapon of your choice. Choose one melee weapon with which you are proficient to be your favored weapon. You can use your favored weapon as a spellcasting focus for your sorcerer spells.

Spellstrike

Starting at 1st level, you learn to channel your innate magic into your favored weapon. Once on each of your turns, when you hit a creature or object with your favored weapon as part of the Attack action, you can apply an additional damage die based on the weapon die, this damage can be Force, Fire, Cold, Acid, Poison, Lightning, or Thunder damage. You choose the damage type when you finish a short or long rest. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1).

You regain all uses of this feature after you finish a short or long rest. This effect increases by one additional damage die at 5th level for a total of two, and again at 11th (3), and 17th level (4).

At 2nd level, you gain the Font of Magic feature. You can expend 1 sorcery point from this feature to use Spellstrike without expending its uses.

Arcane Defense

Starting at 1st level, when you are wearing no armor and not wielding a shield, your AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Charisma modifier.

Bonus Attack

Starting at 6th level, you can make an attack with your favored weapon as a bonus action. If you haven't yet used your Spellstrike feature on this turn, you can use it on this attack. At 14th level, you can use your Spellstrike feature with this attack even if you've already used it on this turn.

Perfect Strike

Starting at 6th level, your practice with arcane martial techniques grant you superior insight in your attacks. Your favored weapon attacks count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistances and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage. Whenever you hit with a melee weapon attack using your favored weapon you can expend 1 sorcery point to maximize the weapon’s damage, instead of rolling. This only affects the weapon’s damage die and not additional damage from other sources such as sneak attack or spellstrike.

However, if you spend an additional 2 sorcery points, you can maximize the damage of a spellstrike as well, instead of rolling.

Perfect Senses

Starting at 14th level, your honed senses keep you always ready for battle. You can give yourself a bonus to your initiative rolls equal to your Charisma modifier. Additionally, you gain a bonus to any Constitution saving throw you make to maintain your concentration on a spell. The bonus is equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of +1).

One with the Weapon

Starting at 18th level, you are a master sword saint and have honed your skills with your favored weapon. You cannot be disarmed unwillingly of your favored weapon, even when unconscious.

Additionally, as a bonus action, you can spend 8 sorcery points to invoke the spirit of your sword saint soul. For one minute you gain the following benefits.

  • Your base walking speed increases by 10 feet.

  • Whenever you take the Attack action, you can attack twice, instead of once.

  • You can use your Spellstrike feature without expending a use, and all your attacks can benefit from your Spellstrike feature even if you have already used it once on your turn.

Once you have used this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
