Nit’s son looked at him, confused. “But I thought the Fireflies were nice to us?” <br>
Nit chuckled, “No, no! That’s not what I mean, Silic. They are nice, and have known us for a long time, but they have a different way of thinking then we do.” <br>
“What do you mean?” asked Silic. <br>
“Well they believe that Lumafly are bugs like us and must be respected like so. It’s a part of their religion.” <br>
“That’s weird.” <br>
“Maybe to us, but not to them, and we have to respect that. This is why we pay them every month. They believe we are employing the Lumafly to light up our fields.” <br>
“I mean… so it’s like when you pay other bugs to help plant and harvest our crops, right?” <br>
“Exactly, so do not say the word ‘sell’ or ‘selling’, ok?” <br>
“Ok.” </i>

These quiet bugs like living in small groups outside of cities or in rural areas. Where they build monasteries where they worship and live in. Though it is not uncommon for them to

go out to work for other bugs who need their expertise in caring of Lumafly or needed in providing light for a traveling party.

### Followers of Hotaru
Fireflies worship Hotaru, the god of rebirth. They believe that each bug has a bright soul that lives on after death, and it takes form in a Lumafly. They do not fear death, as it is necessary for them to be able to transform into their next form in life.<br>
The old story says that when bugs started walking on the world, Hotaru watched over them and became sad, since after a bug dies, their soul leaves their body and quickly dies because it was consumed by the darkness. So Hotaru decided to give all bugs a blessing where their souls were reborn and became Lumafly so the darkness could not consume them. <br>
While the other Lumafly wandered aimlessly around the world, a group of the Lumafly were so happy about their new form that they spent seven days praying together in a field. Touched by their gratitude, Hotaru came down and gave these Lumafly an additional blessing, transforming them into Fireflies and giving them the special task to take care of the Lumafly in the world.

### Lumafly Caretakers
Fireflies have been raising Lumafly for generations. Their monasteries have a special section where they exclusively take care of Lumafly. They are known to raise the brightest Lumafly because they know the exact environment they need to breed. This of course has brought other bugs to them wanting to buy their Lumafly for their own needs. However, bugs must conduct their business in a proper way to gain use of a monastery’s Lumafly. Though Fireflies recognize and can understand bugs’ need for light, they absolutely hate the term “sell” when describing this transaction. Any bug who asks Fireflies to sell their Lumafly will be immediately turned down and asked to leave. <br>
Since Fireflies believe that Lumafly are souls of people, they see transactions as a negotiation for “employing” the Lumaflies. Bugs will be given a certain rate depending on how many Lumafly they need. They will then pay the monastery monthly for use of their Lumafly.

### Guardians of the Night
A problem arose when bugs learned how to breed Lumafly and began to sell them, foregoing the Fireflies’ monthly fee to pay a one time price. This has allowed civilizations to grow, but also put Fireflies in a hard position when in need for money. <br>
This has driven Fireflies to seek outside employment, sending a bit of their money earned back to the monastery while they work somewhere else. Though, there have been cases of Fireflies leaving the monastery to live somewhere else and make their own families. However, whether they leave the monastery or not, a lot of Fireflies have been able to find employment by becoming Night Watchers. While Lumafly are able to bring light to towns and cities, there are still criminals that hide in the shadows. Fireflies have the natural ability to make light. This has made them perfect bugs for law enforcement to employ to watch over the citizens at night, and as part of their duties, they also take care of the Lumafly that the city or town uses.

### Appearance 
Firefly's have pale light gray faces with large black eyes, but their bodies can either be black or dark brown. The last part of their abdomen can come in yellow, green, or blue and it has the ability to glow that same color.

### Firefly Traits

**Ability Score Increase.** Your Charisma score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

**Alignment.** Light should not belong to only one, and fireflies embody this ideal. They are often willing to help both sides of the cause, and tend to be neutral.

**Size.** Firefly's are between 3 and 4 feet tall. Your size is Small.

**Speed.** Your base walking speed is 20 feet.

**Flight.** You have a flying speed of 30 feet. To use this speed, you can’t be wearing medium or heavy armor.

**Resist the Darkness.** You have resistance to necrotic damage.

**Natural Light.** You can cast the dancing lights and light cantrips, however light cannot be cast on object held by another creature. These do not count against the number of cantrips known.

**Users of Light.** You can cast *faerie fire*. Starting at 3rd level, you can also cast *moonbeam* with this trait. You can only cast each spell once per long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

**Languages.** You can speak, read and write Common and Fly.
