A Race Based on Bread

The Doughfolk

Doughfolk come in many different forms, mainly depending on the type of bread they were made out of. The most common form they take are the form of small humans, but some also come in the forms of animals or monsters.

Household Made

First created by an ancient wizard who really did not want to eat his bread, these interesting creatures became a worldwide phenomenon, finding themselves to be the hot new pet for anyone. At least until it was found that these constructs were a lot more sentient than others. Now, the Doughfolk live side by side with the families that took them in as pets, or have abandoned their homes for one reason or another.

Doughfolk Names

Most Doughfolk have been named after what bread they are made out of, or another kind of bread. Examples include Pita, Pumpernickle, Baguette, Brioche and Tortilla.

Doughfolk Traits

Ability Score Increase Your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Age You are immortal. Even though you might stale one day, you can never die from old age.
Alignment As a construct, Doughfolk likely share the alignment of their creator.
Size Doughfolk range from about 4 to 9 inches tall. Your size is Tiny.
Speed Your base walking speed is 25 ft.
Made of Bread You are a Construct.
Food-Based Body You have resistance to psychic damage.
Soggy Bread You can’t spend time in water without crumbling quickly. Whenever you enter a body of water, and at the start of each of your turns in water, you take 5 cold damage.
False Appearance While you remain motionless, you look no different from a piece of bread.
Languages You can speak, read and write Common and one other language of your choice.
Subraces The Doughfolk have been created in five main forms. The Bread, the Cookie, the Gingerbread, the Sourdough, and the Toast.

Bread

Ability Score Increase Your Intelligence score and Wisdom score increase by 1.
Bland, Yet Promising You're relatively bland compared to other Doughfolk, but you're filled with potential, like a slice of bread. You gain proficiency with one skill of your choice.
Control Mold You've gotten used to mold trying to eat you, and you've gotten some control over it. You know the infestation cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the cure wounds spell once per long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the calm emotions spell once per long rest. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Gingerbread

Ability Score Increase Your Dexterity score increases by 2.
Legs Made For Walking That's just what they'll do. Your base walking speed increases to 35 ft.
Nobody Can Catch the Gingerbread Man You always knew no one could ever catch up to you. You can take the Dash action as a bonus action.

Sourdough

Ability Score Increase Your Constitution score increases by 2.
Fermented Dough You were made with some natural bacteria. As such, you gain immunity to poison damage and the poisoned condition.
Sour Taste Your sourness kind of shows up in your face. You gain proficiency in Intimidation.

Toast

Ability Score Increase Your Strength score increases by 2.
Toasty When you were created, you spent a lot of time around heat. You have resistance to fire damage.
Still Too Hot You know how food is just a bit too hot when you eat it? You're still too hot. You can add 1d6 to a melee weapon attack on a hit. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
